Anyone likes the album from these two U.K psychedelic poster designers Michael English and Nighel Weymouth and their group of friends who later were Spooky tooth ? I have been listening to this album this weekend after not listening to it for a long time and i think it's good in it's way .... with candles and incense and smoking ... I also just really love their work back in these days.. with all these beautiful posters for Middle Earth and U.F.O or bands like Soft Machine, The Pink Floyd, Tomorrow, The Who, Dantalian's Chariot and The Incredible String band .... or 'hung on you' king road's clothing boutique and 'the 14 hour technicolour dream' and for the book ' love love love the new love poetry' from Pete Roche Just beautiful stuff ....
I enjoy this album very much also, musically its actually very weak but for a period piece of freeform psychedelic freakout its a fun album. It has an endearing wide-eyed ramshackle naivety about it that a "band" could have only gotten away with in the psychedelic era. "Aoum" actually reminds me of something Acid Mothers Temple might have done today. Another related album worth checking if you haven't already is Art - Supernatural Fairytales from 1968 produced by the same guy (Guy Stevens). They were the band that went on to become Spooky Tooth. It has a great Hapshash cover, in fact I think HapshashandTCC also joined in at the sessions for the album. Supernatural Fairytales was a massive influence on Black Sabbath's early sound according to both Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi, and it really shows in some of the vocal stylings and the doom laden proto-metal riffs on the album.
I have heard the 'Supernatural Fairytale' album with Art and i think it's good but i don't have a copy of it so i haven't heard it very often but i remember it was really good ... I agree with the music on the hapshash & the coloured coat ... album musically it's no masterpiece but it's just very good for it's time ... freakout psychedelic music and i so enjoy listening to it The Art album cover is also very beautiful
ive had this LP for years and loved it. One of the freaky gems of the age, with the cover art even more out there. These guys are pioneers of the 60s culture, making music after leaving their clothing store in 64, one that brought the first mod fashions to londons scene, saying that the scene was too pedestrian. They did this and a couple other albums, but were asked over and over to do cover art and show posters for so many that it became their main biz. nice vinyl to have!
