so i have been thinking about trying to take my dreads out and redoing them. i really like the thick dreads but since i have put mine in, i have noticed people with "average" size dreads and i have started to like them. they look fuller and you have way more dreads. i am at a 50/50 with this right now. this is the size i wanted when i first put them in but after seeing other people with dreads i have started liking them this size this one also has more dreads. not sure if i just should let them grow and keep them and let them get really thick or redo them and have more dreads. what does everyone think? this is what mine look like now thanks for the advice!
I don't understand what you're asking. If you want thicker dreads just congo them together. There's not much you can do really. If you wait it out they will get thicker.
the first pic is the size i wanted when i dreaded my hair, my sections are the size that everyone said i need for them to thicken up to that size, but in the past month i have meet people with dreads the size in the second pic (they are smaller then the first) well i am wanting them that size now to. i guess what i am asking is which size would look better for me, the thick ones with fewer dreads or the smaller ones with more dreads.
it would be resection them, but i personally like the thicker dreads, but thats just me.. im gonna congo a few of my thinner ones one day..
Thickies alllll the way baby! OP I saw on your albums that you'd started your dreads beginning of march? If it's really bugging you then there wouldn't be much love lost with starting again... It's really hard to tell/give advice because your hairs so short. I think the best advice I can give would be to wait until your hair gets longer then see how you feel, you can always split them. I know what you mean about the thickness. Mine are getting so thick I'm struggling with t-shirts.
It's a bit hard to tell really. But if you want to make a change for the thinner, then it's easiest to do it soon before your hair locks up. The size of the portion of scalp from which an individual dread is growing pretty much represents how fat its base will ever be, and how fat the locks will get as they grow out more. It will be after several years that your dreads are as fat as the base, after which point they will obviously be longer, and may look proportionally ok (whereas at their current length if they were as fat as their base sections they'd look a bit odd). The size of the dreads framing your face at the moment look about right; they seem to suit you. The back ones look like they'll be pretty fat one day, but I'm not sure how much that matters. It will be a long long time I think before the fatter ones really are massive, and when that time comes you'll also have the option of splitting them. I think I've possibly just typed a load of useless waffle at you. The main thing I notice, especially on men, perhaps because they don't think/plan/care a certain way in advance, is that in profile, some of the side dreads can look badly proportioned and distributed. But that's just my opinion lol. Anyways, whatever you do/don't do it's never the end of the world and always possible to fix or change at a later point
thanks everyone, i think i am going to redo them, and make them smaller for now. if i ever want them thicker later on i think it would be easier dreading a few together then it would be to split them. i will be starting tonight on undoing my dreads and next weekend i will be redoing them. so i will start a new thread next weekend and keep it updated with the new process.
op: we told you so haha, theyll be easy to take out, given their age and length. remember that thinner dreads WILL get fatter... im saying this so you dont post a thread in a month saying 'i want fatter dreads..' =]
smellyd: lol yeah thanks, i want the fat ones but the people i have been running into has smaller ones and i really like, so i am going to do that. also i have noticed that the fuller ones just look well fuller lol instead of a couple thick ones. i do like the way the thick ones look but after have these for almost a month, i do want more then whats in my hair now.
ive always preferred thinnies, because i know theyll eventually get fat.. id rather that happen then have fatties that become huge =]

well i started taking them out. only have about 4 out now and already gone thur one thing of conditioner, they are knotted up a lot more then i thought that they were. the sea salt and lemon juice really tightened the insides up really good. well i am going to eat then continue to comb them out
imo you should take out the dreads completely...and let them happen naturally this way, you get the dreads you're meant to have it's like your dreads choosing you, rather than you choosing your dreads
