since i started my dreads my hair is always really oily cuz i dont wash it as much and my face has been breaking out a lot. i think when my dreads touch my face the oil gets on it. anyone else have this problem? what do you do about it?

If you continue not washing, after awhile your scalp will almost stop producing oil completely and will make your super hair dry

But many don't agree with my view on this

I had acne before dreads but I found that just keeping stridex or what pads with you helps. But my FAVORITE thing is dry shampoo. That stuff saves my life. Use the tigi rockaholic stuff it soaks up oil and you dont have to brush it out, just spray it where its needed.

Head band might work. But I share the same view as Pat__ eventually your scalp will stop doing this. It's just freaking out because it's not used to not having harsh chemicals on it that strip the natural oils. Relax.

I remember my first set of dreads left my face pretty greasy. I can't remember if it brought out spots but it definately sorted it's self out after a few months.

i think you should try washing every 2-3 days. i never have oil problems or dandruff or anything doing it that way. washing your hair actually helps your hair dread faster.

I disagree. As I stated earlier, the less you wash, the less oil your scalp produces leading to dry hair which will dread up faster. It might seem oily at first to go without washing, but it will pay off in the long run.

I think washing your hair once a week is good.

I wash every other day or sometimes I will go 2 or 3 days but hardly. I haven some thing with the way hair smells naturally, it really bothers me.

As for pimple, yeah try a headband or use those pads for your face a couple times a day. Try a tea tree oil pad, like Desert Essence or use tea tree oil on a cotton ball.

yea washinmg weekly your hair will produce less buyt
if your already pretty oily it might not be enough to just slack off washing you may want to make a thyme tea ad spray it on the scalp leaving it on all week
in a few weeks youir gonna be alot less oily
teatree oil also will elp get rid of the zits

    thanks everyone!
ive been washin every 3-4 days. by the 4th day its so greasy and itches like crazy. i want to get down to wasing it once a week tho. when i wash i sometimes use dr. bronners but i usually use some stuff i made. its got rosemary tea, sea salt, baking soda, tea tree oil and a little lemon juice. isnt rosemary suppose to decrease greasyness?
