well to make a boring story short, i think i pinched a nerve in my spine or back or whatever. it started out as back pain and now is bicep pain and almost complete loss of feeling in my right thumb. i still have complete control over my thumb but a strange pins/needles feeling and numbness. i havent gone to the doctor yet because i do not have any form of insurance BUT things just dont seem to be getting better. this has been since march 1st that i havent had feeling in my thumb. anyone got any idea wtf is goin wrong with my body? i dont remember straining too much during workouts, but i do explosive and vigorous workouts regularly. maybe i strained too much and did some damage, im just scared to death because i cant tell if i permanently messed myself up or if ill eventually get feeling back. i did have a no pain no gain attitude towards excercise but when the thumb went numb i knew there was real damage. if i straighten my vertebre i get some pain reliefe and what "seems" like some feeling. I looked at alot of info on the web, im almost completely sure this is a pinched nerve and i basically have 2 options, a) wait b) surgery. what would you guys do if you couldnt go see a doctor and had these problems? please ANY input would be appreciated.

If your thumb is going numb I would go to the doctor. You should go to the emergency room or walk in clinic and let them check it out.

A chiropractor could likely straighten this situation up with a few cracks of your back, no surgery necessary.

I lost sensation in my left thumb and the top of my right hand after having handcuffs locked on too tightly for too long. Loss of sensation lasted for months. Now, they are fine.

So, it hasn't been that long for you.

Then again, if you think this is related to your spine (which it might well be) then you might want to take it seriously. There is no bigger bitch than chronic back injuries. A pinched nerve could in theory be easily unpinched, by a physio, (I don't believe in these guys - don't recommend it) a chiropractor or a massage therapist. However, that would have the inherent risk of making the problem worse.

If it were me in your situation, I would get health insurance asap, before complaining to a doctor about your issue, and complain maybe a week or two after getting insured. Might save you a lot in the future, if it turns out to be a back problem.

Seriously, dude, the chiropractor is awesome. When I was a baby, my leg was turned in and my hip was out of place, and my parents went to multiple doctors, all with crazy solutions that would've likely fucked me up bad for life, body casts, braces, invasive surgeries, but they took me to the chiropractor and three visits and my leg was straight, no problems since then. And when I was about 10, I had some serious headaches and a readjustment cleared them right up.

I once pinched a nerve in my leg, and the entire leg/thigh area felt numb for days. I was really nervous something was seriously wrong. Turns out, just a pinched nerve, common, and would pass in time.

Get yourself looked at anyway, but dont stress too much.

He readjusted my spine. It popped my hip back into place, so my leg was turned in the right direction. And when I was having so many headaches, I had a pinched nerve and readjusting my spine popped everything back where it was supposed to be, which let the nerve free.

I owe my mobility, my whole LIFE to a chiropractor, so I definitely sing their praises. :)

thanks for the support, asshole. anyway it did end up being a pinched nerve,so i guess i diagnosed myself well. i had to eventually see a neurologist who is suggesting laser surgery.. lol. i appreciate all who responded with a dignified and intelligent answer.. unlike the dick who i quoted.

    yes

I haven't for awhile, but i do go to the chiropractor

I've learned to do most of what they do all on my own

but occasionally there is a spot I just can't get and I have to go

    NEVER had a bad visit

    NEVER hurts

if it hurts, you are doing something very wrong
