Sri Aurobindo, the greatest philosopher India has produced for perhaps 5,000 years said that although all is the Divine, there is also the un-divine, and even the anti-divine. A fact I think some people need to get into their heads. Don't be deceived! Love, BBB.
It means a lot. I posted this really to counter the limitations of the 'all is spirit' idea which many people seem to hold these days - an idea which in my view doesn't hold water given the terrible things we see in the world today. It's very hard to see how the monstrous rape of the planet, widespread human rights abuses, religious fanaticism etc. are 'spirit' in anything but a very indirect way. How can it be spirit in an indirect way? Because, says Sri Aurobindo, an aspect of the original spirit, the supreme divine, purposefully became unconscious, for the purposes of creating the univrse. From this original unconsciousness, there gradually emerged life, and later on mind as we know it in our human form. In this evolutionary process of emergence, there also arose much which can be termed falsehood and error. Falsehood, because this consciousness imagines a world without the divine. These things are un-divine, because God is all knowing, and His knowledge is perfect and complete. He has manifested Himself as this cosmos and this multitude of beings. We are Him, but we don't know it. This is ignorance, or avidya. An un-divine, or even anti-divine consciousness. There comes a point where the falsehood becomes dominant and seeks to impose itself upon the whole of life - at this point it becomes anti-divine.
I think its funny how two different people that follow two different ideas think the same on religion.
Well I guess thats an example of the convergence that's happening in our time On behalf of Sri Aurobindo, all I can say is that the age of the old religions is passed. What we need now is the direct connection and consciousness. In the past, a few yogis, initiantes and others spoke of this. Now is the time! Love & Peace.
When I say 'on behalf of Sri Aurobindo', of course I mean on behalf of what of Sri A finds existence or expression in the form known as 'me'. Ultimately, there is no difference between Sri Aruobindo and this form - and hence no difference between this present form and the Divine Mother, who is ALL. You too are HER CHILD!!! We are all ONE!! A fantastic creation - something utterly wonderful and unique! You alone can do what you have to do. You alone can express love in your own totally unique way! That is the gift of the divine to you....! So - LOVE - That's the thing. NOTHING is higher. Thank Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Lao Tsu, Black Elk, and many others for this gift, because it is the keystone - the only thing that can make this existence either meaningful or tolerable.
Hare Krishna! Dear Andrew, Thanks for the wonderful topic of 'A simple fact'. Pranam at the lotus feet of the great yogi. The Divine himself has become the un-Divine and anti-Divine. So, it is all the shadow of the same Divine but not the Divine itself. True, very true..... we are at the right time now to understand this. The purpose, the specific purpose we do not know but it appears to be a wonderful game of..........I don't know what. Touch-stone of Love appears to be the answer for solving so many problems yet the Game goes on, will go on for ever. Where there is true Love, there is reprimand and punishment, we must not forget that. Time has come now to punish and love again. Love, Kumar.
We're walking in part on a war, a war that we have to fight. We've seen what the divine self can amount to and that vast potential it has. But we also see this injustice around the world and we each know it is not right. There are serious problems out there and when one has the ability and the heart to want to help the people then one can truly make a difference. You can sit at home and Jerk-off with Hedonism by flooding your mind with the Love of the Self, or you can go out and change just one reality out there and extinguish one piece of injustice and truly change people lives. Bring the love you've found to the people who need it more than anyone else. You'll know when it's right. STAND UP! and HELP YOUR BROTHERS!!!
While I understand, admire and respect your devotion to your teacher, I think it is unfair to set aside all the other countless masters as inferior. As just one example, there would have been no Hinduism, nor any Vedas left for Sri Aurobindo to draw inspiration from if it weren't for the efforts of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, whose superhuman volume of work is what continues to sustain our roots. No enlightened soul can ever be compared to another - who are we to judge their contributions? And it is strange to say Sri Aurobindo is greater than anyone or anything, when in his own vision itself there was no concept the other to be compared against. The sage is beyond all such duality. I understand the love and reverence for a teacher can come out in this way, but please remember there are others whose teachers are also great realized souls. And those other people may feel bad. Why create such disharmony?
As my teacher said to me at a crisis point in my life: From one standpoint all is spirit only. This is the standpoint of enlightenment. But from the standpoint of vyavahara (transacting with the world), you have to remember it is a collective manifestations of the desires of all beings, and therefore necessarily a mixture of good and bad. As a corollary, in Ramcharitmanas, Tulsidasji offers us this advice: The world is a mixture of good and bad, and the sage is like a swan who separates and assimilates the good (milk) and rejects the bad (water).
Hare Krishna! From Bhaskar........ Why create such disharmony? ................ Dear Bhaskar, My Guru, my teacher, the seer whom I follow, is the best and purna-brahma-Narayana. Thought like this is correct and there is nothing wrong. With this in mind you do not look beyond and get confused because of obvious comparisons which unavoidably follow. I think we should get to the core idea of BBB's posts and concentrate on that. Disharmony ? Thanks to my Lord, my Guru.... even the thought did not come to my mind, because I did not even notice that BBB had written anything wrong (?). Your points are very much valid, but I would never even imagine that BBB had any such ideas of creating complexes and disharmony. I am well aware that you are on a very high plane, I feel somewhat embarrassed to write this. Love, Kumar.
Dear Kumar, First of all, I really admire your ability to communicate with love. It is a quality I need to develop more. While I absolutely understand the tendency to see the our own teacher as the very highest and best, I do feel that while communicating in an arena where people of different faiths/teachers are present, that we must be careful not to put people off. I am not saying BBB had any intention to cause disharmony, but it does happen unintentionally. I too believe my guru is the best and greatest teacher. For me. But if I were to go to someone who follows a different teacher and say my Guru is the best, however good my intentions, it is likely put the person off. Anyway, let us not get sidetracked, since this is an interesting topic of discussion. love and Om! Om! Om!
So this is a thread about ....dualism...? Yes? No? Maybe (AH HA!)? hehehe Ummm ...I kind of agree with what Bhaskar had said before: It seems to make a lot of sense because it allows for both dualism and non-dualism to exist... the Essence of life being non-dualistic (spirit, as it were) but the "reality" (use that term loosely...like as in material reality not Ultimate Reality) in life dichotomy : hot/cold, good/evil, happy/sad.... if this were not so, would we not have to interact with these dichotomies in order to exist on this Earth... wouldn't transcendence of these dichotomies then be enlightenment? Am I missing the point? Haha. Relayer said: A simple fact: LOVE. So much less complicated, right? God, I hope so. lol.
Our mission here is not regarding enlightenment, we have already been enlightened(enough) to know the difference between good and evil, between what's right and what's wrong. The OP was about recognizing these opposing forces in this material realm. Those of you who have experienced "God/Reality"(whatever you call it) have reached a point of realization. But what good is that realization if the fruits of it don't produce GOoD realities? or even to at least improve the many negatively affected realities that our brothers are experiencing daily. It's one thing to transcend this world and it's a quality to have that power but if it's not used to help anyone or to teach others to do the same, what good is it? IT'S HEDONISM AND THAT FORUM IS JUST ABOVE THIS ONE! If you have seriously seen the light, then when you see the problems inna da world, do what is right to fix what you can. It's about taking action. If you can transcend the world then you have more power than any others because you can't lose. But to option not to help is just sufficing personal desire to reach the furthest state possible and isn't that just greedy to not share this CONSTANT STREAMING LOVE WITH EVERYONE! You might wonder how you can share this love, HELP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO NEED IT!!!!!!
A very good point. By its very presence the sun, just by being what it is, the sun sustains our lives, giving us warmth and light and food and countless blessings. It does not have to make any special effort to do so. In the same way, the enlightened sage, by her very presence, fills the atmosphere around her with peace. Even places where such masters have lived many decades and even centuries ago, are still charged with that atmosphere of peace and love. The great master Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh used to sit in the woods near the Ganga and meditate. And you would find natural enemies such as snakes and mongooses sitting around him peacefully. Just by going near such a person the mind and heart are soothed and peace and joy manifest within. They cannot help it, just as the sun cannot but bless the Earth.
Great point indeed! That is valid 100% At the same time we still have people suffering as a result of other people. We still have problems and we do have an opportunity to be more direct to help the people. I think people will be in a situation to do both. There will be some who stick in the woods and create harmony and there will be those who attempt to harmonize the disharmony. Everyone has their path and will most certainly do different things. But the bigger point to observe here is that each situation is still helping. The mystic in the woods calms the animals, the mystic in the world calms the people. Both are extremely valuable. Enlightenment is usually good wherever and however it happens, no?
