As much as I think this stuff does happen, an entry in someone's 'blog is going to be very difficult to verify as real.
Paint me cynical, but I just don't buy it. Sure, the US government is more than capable of insane levels of paranoia, but if they were gonna start hassling the on-line journal community they'd need to set up a whole new deparment to cope with the workload!
Woah! If that story is true then that's preddy disturbing. Sounds very much like SS/Gestapo tactics to me.
sounds very american to me. i think the guy sounded very sure of what he was talking about and seemed pretty damn pissed off at the removal of his right to free speach.
i hardly find a journal to be any place for a story like this...he could take this to a news agency and run with it and be an overnight celebrity....
He is actually a she ... anyway reading into her blog and following her 'about me' info onto a link to her homepage it appears she likes writing fiction: http://anniesj.net/
Don't forget the shut down Indymedia UK, stole all of their disks, brought them up on no charges at all, then gave everything back....
I think the end of the world must be near, because I find myself agreeing with Megara. The media would love this. Not really the same thing as questioning an on-line diary writer though, huh? There's a danger that we can allow our suspicion of the American regime to turn into paranoia. Every story of this nature should be subject to our critical faculty, not automatically believed because it fits with our preconceptions.
That is because of the American Patriot Act, which was covered in Micheal Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 and exposed as a bad piece of legislation because it ignores the right to free speech. The Patriot Act obviously needs amending.
yes, chalk it up to the patriot act. shit like this happens all the time. you 'merkins arent as free as you'd like to believe.
