I had my buddy come over and put all my hair in to 1/4-1/2 inch braids. I want these braids to eventually become dreadlocks.

I am not sure how to go about doing that.

I have read alot the of the threads in this forum and all of the stickys and I cant find anything that can help me.

Sorry if this is a repeat thread.

Take your braids out and leave your hair alone. Stop brushing/washing it and just have patience.

or just leave your braids in,, they will dread eventually.... in a few weeks take the bands out though..

I would take the bands and braids out then if you want you could backcomb them or just stop brushing your hair and let it do its thing.

I bought a bottle of shampoo that is made from olive oil or something from sally's (beauty shop) The lady told me it was all organic and it doesnt have a scent to it. Do you guys think that this would be an OK product to use?

my hair was braided, and i just took them out one at a time and backcombed them as i went. i think i went for the record time with backcombing cos i started them in feb (nearly a year! woooo!) and finished them in june.
i may as well just gone natural!

you can just leave them in and the hair will lock up from the roots. When they seem to be getting tight at the roots, get the braids out and let the other hair dread by itself of backcomb.

Hey i started may dreadlocks with braids, i left mine in for about 2 months and took the ones out at the front when i had time to backcomb them. i did them bit by bit over the space of a month.
Id say my dreads are pretty OK looking
they are still babies and i dont really do too much to maintain them :)
id say let the roots start locking then take em out and give thema bit of encouragement

I think braids would be a good way of sectioning and giving good texture to straight hair. But, I feel it would take even longer for a braid to lock up than just straight hair. so, braid it. let it sit. then take one out and start back combing. repeat.

^totally agree with her. since you have the braids, the sections are already made. so undo and backcomb braid by braid.
    good luck
