Those are usually the first kinds of jobs to go during a recession, and
there are a lot of people out there who believe it’s a waste of money
to teach convicted felons their ABC's.

    I don't believe in recessions.
Not in the strict sense of it but...
I've worked for 25 years and maybe in my whole life I didn't work for 3 months. There was always a job for me if I really wanted to work.
BUT - I didn't always have a good job or a good pay. These days are great - but because I'm a crazy sob I'm broke. I don't owe money - except for my car but, I don't have any.
So, I truly believe that your "dad's universe" will unfold in a positive way - don't give up, don't give in. You always have to keep knocking on doors and eventually one opens.
Whatever it's worth...good luck to your dad!

I am so sorry.. that you're dad got fucked over for doing the right thing. Is there anything I can do to help? Anyone in public office who is responsible for covering this up that is accessible to the public?
    That is absolutley morally deranged.

Why on earth would your father testify against a prison guard

Those guards just like cops have adopted a “World VS Us" attitude and to defy it means censure, reprimand, or worse

I agree. I've always had a job at or above what I think i'm qualified for though. I do not think ia m qualified for my current job.
Horrible anger and fucked upness aside, there are always social service jobs-always. In fact I find there's more now that the economy's bad (sans grant funded positions).
Jer, your dad is going to beat the living shit out of their coruptness, but if he chooses he wants to move on, there are tons of other jobs out there for him.
Is his retirement goign to be affected?

So you would have let a female student of yours who wants to turn her life around get mistreated by a freaking prison guard?

I can say from communicating with the jails over here when I worked at the methadone clinic that prison guards tend to be shitbags on a powertrip. They have no education, sometimes no experience and little training in people skills, psychology or respecting diversity (gangs are not diversity). They only know how to deal with extremly violent offenders and are untrained in using positive reinforcement to encourage those who want to change their lives. They are often overworked due to overcrowding (not their fault). Think of the type of person who would 'want' a job like being a prison guard? Someone on a mentally unstable power trip comes to my mind.
So a person (like you obviously are) with a 'prison guard mentality' prob wouldn't do the right thing.
However a teacher obviously would unless they are a mutant teacher who went into the wrong field (liek the pedophile teachers).
The fact that someone cannot comprehend protecting a female student instead of saving their own ass sickens me.
