Before they rule out zoo's. It's not right, locking animals up like that. You hardly see a circus today that has animals in it turning tricks, same thing needs to happen to zoo's, get rid of them.
I agree with this to an extent, but a lot of zoos are trying to create more suitable habitats for animals now. They are also invaluable for breeding programs as well as a tool for education and spreading awareness. I know I would rather live in a good zoo than get eaten in the wild.
Circus? Wrong. Eating meat? Half-wrong. Zoo. Ok. Circus - animals are like a freak show and psychologically "forced" to do things for a scooby-snack. Eating meat - if instead of making dumb invention like new sports car we'd do the real important things... We could find alternative to this form of cannibalism. Eat your own kind. I fantasize that meat grows on trees rather than a little baby lamb was slauthered and his ass is in my plate. Zoo - if the animals are in a group, family or two - then, not being lonely, preserving the species - that's a good thing.
I know some zoos take endangered animals and do the breeding program and then put them through a program to reinstate them to the wild. I think the ones where they make animals do tricks are bad, but there are many who just let them be so you can see them in a "natural" environment or whatever.
Nothing wrong with zoos. A person can go visit countless types of animals they would never see otherwise. It helps them to respect life. If the only animals we ever saw were the dead ones on our plates, do you think we would care about what happens to the mountain gorillas? Zoos are not circuses, where the animals are beaten if they don't dance in a tutu... And there would be a hell of a lot more extinct species if not for the protected habitats in a zoo. They have proper environments, they are not locked in tiny cages...
yeah i agree with everyone...the people working at zoos and aquariums are very knowledgeable in what they're doing with these animals...it really is better for the animals...and as for being in cages, most zoos have cages and fenced-in areas that are big enough for the animals to live in.
If anything saves the zoos, it will be endangered species. Some of those animals are not going to be able to survive in the wild at all.
Having been behind the scenes at a zoo, I disagree. I believe at most zoos, the animals are likely well taken care of. If they weren't, it would show to the public. But the relationship between a zoo employee and their animals is so cool. You talk to one of them and it's like they're talking about family.
As long as they aren't talking about their girlfriend, bitch, mistress, wife or lover, then I think that is lovely.
I think the opposite, there should be more zoos opened. In the state of the world at the moment there will probably be a time in the near future where the only place to see a live wild animal will be a zoo. Also zoo benefit wild life by have mating programs. Take the panda for instance, they have a very short period of "heat" each year (round 2 days). In the wild the male would not only have to find a mate but would also have to find where on his mate to stick it. Zoos and other wild animal facilities provide an environment for panda mating to easily occur, by putting an ear piece in the males ear to tell him all the right moves.
Oh come on, that's a selfish way of looking at it, this is about what's good for the animal, not our viewing pleasure, there's more than one way to see an animal, and imo, it's best in it's natural habitat. As for the extinct species thing, the majority of animals you see aren't on the endangered species list and zoo's aren't helping them survive. Obviously some zoo's are doing good protecting/helping certain species, breeding programs etc, but I think the majority of the animals you see are there for nothing more than viewing pleasure, which is what I object to.
I said everyone. Us and them. I don't think the lions and tigers and bears (oh my) are too worried about a human half their size. They would be more concerned with which portion is theirs...
