So, i made a test dread. But since neither i, neither my friend have ever made dreads...well, we kinda don't know if it came out alright. She thinks that it's soft and that it's not good, i said that in my opinion it's alright and that it should be kinda soft. How long should the length from the root be? It's holding together for 3 days now and looks decent in my opinion, so i guess it came out alright.
    But damn, backcombing hurts....
    Opinions?

if you thought backcombing hurts dont try to crochet, hurts more the closer to the root you get... also it should get tighter as it gets older so dont worry about it

Well, this is how it looked a few minutes before finishing it. Finished it's a little tighter and the tip looks better. Is it normal?

looks alright. it doesnt matter too much if its holding together, itll prolly fall out with time and knot up again of its own accord

Also...try a twist and rip one for comparison while you're at it :)

Nah, there's a bit of aloe vera. I tried twist and rip, but i don't really get it, i made a little dready and it fell apart after washing my hair.

Just took it, twisted it, ripped it, then repeated it, it held together pretty good, but when i washed my hair, it fell apart.. Sad that there's only backcombing "how to" on youtube. At least i can't seem to find a crocheting or twist and rip "how to".

If I had a way to upload videos I would do a T & R dread at the bottom of my hair... it's all loose there still. I personally have found that the dreads I tested with this stayed more knotted than the backcombed ones. They seem to start off really puffy, you can just roll it a bit right away and get the poofiness down.

It seems to work better when you do not take even parts to pull. One of the two pieces I would always be about 1/5th of the size of the other strand. Hope that helps!

And good luck on your solo dread adventure... very fun! =)

Well, why can't you upload a video? I'm going to wait until my hair gets even longer and then do the rest of the head. I'll leave this one in for the fuck of it.

My external disc drive is broken on my pc so I cant download the program to upload photos and videos. :S Only fix is to buy a new pc of have someone fix this one as the external one I purchased is only good for dvds and cds. :( And I do not want to send off my harddrive to anyone.

Twist and ripping will make way tighter dreads than backcombing. If they fell apart, you probly didn't wait long enough for your first wash or you didn't twist and rip tight enough.

I made twist and rips in Chaos' hair and they're still intact and getting really tight really fast

its more the side ones.. they got about an inch or so of tangle, but then about 6 inches of just straight, loose, unknotted and 'normal' hair
