List all of the drugs you have ever done (or any substances not necessarily called a drug but result in an altered state of mind and consciousness). If you had to choose just one to use for the rest of your life without any health concequences (whereas if you used another drug you would reap the negative effects of both) which one would it be and why?

I have a theory about the gateway effect:

I think it is a gateway drug, but only because it's illegal. The fact that it's illegal means that you have to come into contact with people who are selling other drugs and, sooner or later, curiosity will get the best of you and you'll end up trying those other drugs. If weed was legal and you didn't have to meet shady people to buy it, then there would be less of a chance for people to start using other drugs. Sure, some people would still use other drugs, but not because of the gateway effect.

If weed was legal, people would look at it more like they look at alcohol and they wouldn't put it in the same category as other drugs the way they do now. It would just be another legal and more widely accepted way to relax after work and on the weekends. lol

I was writing almost exactly that same reply. Let me add that it also makes large numbers of young people think of themselves as criminals. Weed is illegal and great, why not try other illegal substances?

TopNotch, that is some list. Have you kept a running list, or did you do that off the top of your head?

    Eggzakly!

And no, I didn't keep a running list. Another thread was made in the drug polls subforum about all of the different drugs everyone has done, so I thought long and hard about all of the drugs I've done over the past 10 years and those are the ones I can remember. I'm pretty sure that's almost all of them, but I could definitley be forgetting a few. lol

Nope, no heroin. Someday, perhaps. I definitely wanna try some H, but I'm just gonna wait until it crosses my path. I haven't tried meth either, surprisingly. I'm very thankful too, because I would've become a meth addict, based on how much meth I've been around. lol

Definitely. And of course, for some rebellious types, just being high or stoned was so taboo in the beginning, doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore and isn't good enough for them and they want to try something "better". heh, hence all the hard drugs. ah youth.

After seeing everybody elses list I feel like such a noob! For me I've got:

    Alcohol
    Marijuana
    MDMA
    Cocaine
    Nicotene
    DXM
    Hydrocodone

(roughly in chronological order even! Lol)

Of those the one that I still love the most is by far alcohol. Just makes being alive so much more meaningful to me. (such an alcoholic, I know). But if I could somehow drink without the negative health effects like the situation described in the OP that would just be it for me. I'd be drunk every waking minute from there on out!

marijuana is a gateway drug, the government isnt lying in that respect.

what they fail to tell you is that EVERY drug is a gateway drug.

that could be true. but most people start with marijuana or alcohol. although ive never really heard alcohol being referred to as a gateway drug.
