Most of the people at them, at least in my part of the county, are such right-wing conservative bible-thumpers, it makes me want to puke. I'm an atheist and a libertarian, and the first thing these people start talking about is the reason we are in this mess is because we have lost the blessing of the "sky daddy"... give me a break. :toetap05:

Well here, in my part of the county, people are concerned about wasteful government spending and an increase in taxes. It has nothing to do with religion or right or left wing politics. The main stream media is going to make this out to be a bunch of crazy extremists when really it's just American's trying to be heard.

See now people who agree with the stimulus and such always say this but this just isn't true

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m.../barack-obama/some-economists-disagree-obama/

As for spending out way out of the depression, WW2 is what got us out of the depression, and we could've spent almost anything during the 1940's and it would've been ok. Post WW2, most of the non industrialized world was dirt poor and barely made a dent in the world market, and basically all the former big economies of the past aside from the US and Canada were lying in ruins which gave the US an unknown level of economic advantages

And I can promise you very few people in Connecticut are right wing nut job bible thumpers. I tried to go the one in New Haven, but alas things came up

Well said. Honestly, I doubt there would really be many "bible thumpers" at a protest like this, at least where I reside as well.

Then how come the Republicans, who were in charge for eight years, did so very little about wasteful spending? How come there was no reform of the farm bill? How come we kept on building unneeded weapons systems? How come there was no discussion of ending the War on Some Drugs? How come we threw so much money down the toilet in Iraq?

See, I don't think the Republicans really care about this. All they really care about is the interests of the rich. If the rich get richer if the government spends more, they're in favor of it. If not, not.

:banghead: Come on, folks. I agree with the message! I was just making a comment on how these rallies should be more "political" and less "religious". Why does someone always have to bring religion into these things.... leave it at your church. That is all I was saying.

We are still throwing money down the toliet. It happens no matter who is in charge. If not Iraq then Afghanistan... It just so happens that most Americans have finally decided that enough is enough!

The purpose of the tea party is to let our elected officials know we are tired of our government over-stepping boundaries, over-spending, and over-taxing. The tea party is not about blame or political party

These tea parties might be a way for people to convince themselves that they have a say, but other than that I don't see them accomplishing anything. It seems these tea parties have been hijacked by the media and certain special interest groups, which have marginalized the protesters within the left/right spectrum.

You see, not everyone calls themselves a Democrat or a Republican. Some people see beyond the labels. There is no doubt the Republicans are bad. But so are the Democrats. Everything the Republicans did is being carried on by the Democrats -- who are owned by the same corporate interests as the Republicans -- in an even bigger way. There isn't any real differences between the two parties outside of the superficial realm.

Sure, most Republicans in power only care about the interests of their corporate buddies on Wall Street. But do you think it's any different with the Democrats? Look at the number of people in Obama's cabinet that were found to have been not paying taxes.

The Democrat and Republican parties are both controlled by elitists and neither are looking out for the interests of the people.

While at the same time spending ourselves into further debt? LOL!!!

Meanwhile, half of Obama's staff don't even pay taxes.

Yeah, and it created an economic downturn that lasted three times as long as it would have without the intervention.

I think maybe you need to brush up on the history a bit.

I mostly agree with you, but there are some big differences. The Republicans are worse. For instance, the Obama Administration has just killed some big weapons systems that would not die under the Republicans. And if Obama is serious about cutting the deficit in half, he will have to make some serious moves on some sacred cows. I'm hoping, for instance, that he will privatize the manned space program. Why should taxpayers be paying for that? I would much rather see Marriott and Hilton begin to build orbiting hotels.

Personally, I feel that things will not really get better until there is serious campaign finance reform.

Well yeah, see when you get a loan it's better and more cost effect to the loan holder to pay off the loan quick as possible so you can curve the interest cost when you leeway time over.
