First. Do not tell me the hazards of this. How I could get and infection or all the fun things that could go wrong. I know.

I am old enough to get a tattoo, but this is something person I feel the need to do.

I just want to know how to do it and make it stay. I have needles, lighter, rubbing alcohol and ink.

So any tips/tricks to getting this right. Experiences you have and pictures of home tatsQ

You're just using regular needles?! How does that work? Not knocking you or anything just saw what you posted and thought "huh how's that done". Good luck

When I was 14 or 15 I gave myself a tattoo on my hand. It turned out really well. It depends what kind of tatoo you want to do though. I did dots. Really easy. But one thing you need to know is disinfect everything, go deep enough, and don't get it wet.

annnd I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you had a tattoo gun and had been practicing for quite some time but .. it's your body *shrugs*

It's all good, I still want to see.

Natureslovechild- if you do it you should post pics as well.

The only reason I'm against it is because I've never seen a good homemade tattoo. They all end up looking green and ..well like a homemade tattoo. Even home made tattoo guns don't look nice unless you have experience. The only ones i have seen turn out well were done by tattoo artists who tattooed themselves.

Anyways, best of luck NLC, keep us updated.

Hmm well, my grandfather has two homemade tattoos. One on each arm. He got them when he was in his teens, I think, and to be homemade tattoos they look great. Of course, he's in his late 60's now, so they're faded a good deal and a tad bit saggy.

i've been giving myself tattoos by this method for a few years... there are some pitfalls, but dont let that discourage you...

you mustn't go too deep as to make the ink bleed out, but you must go deep enough... the method is sometimes reffered to as "pick and poke." this is because you must go in as a poke and pull it out at an angle, tearing the skin as you pick the needle out.

you must use india ink, or other carbon based ink so it is not toxic.

i recomend you wrap the needle in thread and attach it to the end of a stick. the thread will hold the ink so you dont have to dip it as often.

do not drink alcohol, because this will force the ink out of the skin.

good luck, this is an awesome way to tattoo and once youve got some practice it becomes quite easy.

and also, tattoos by this method that are done right will not bleed at all and will heal in about a week, this is much faster than professionally done tattoo.

well i used india ink, like the kind that comes in a bottle. you can get it fairly cheap in art stores.
i have an outline of a star on my foot that i did myself. half of it came out because i didn't go deep enough, but i'm fixing it soon.

may i ask what you're planning on doing, and where? there are areas (like feet) that should probably be avoided because the skin sheds there more frequently.

i like the look of homemade tattoos. personally, i would only let a very close friend tattoo me. i prefer to do them myself because it is a very personal to me, i guess you could say spiritual act.
i have the squatter's symbol on one of my forearms (first tattoo) and i have knuckle tattoos and a couple other smaller ones on my hands...in the process of doing a sun on the back of one hand and a moon on the back of the other....one day i may do a face tattoo. i do them all with a sewing needle and india ink and haven't gotten an infection yet.
