i usually do 3 days between washes, and i do bicarb one day and kboy the other i havent used rosemary oil, tbh i was ganna wait for the damn seeds in the greenhouse to hurry up and grow so i can make a tea, but i think ill be waiting a while! rosemarys good for the dandruff isnt it? blah. i wish i was a herb geek and yeah, i did try the pure tea tree on my face, stung like a bitch. im a picker im afraid, cant leave the lumps alone (and then get annoyed when they get red and blotchy and breakout......)
Oh Smelly! X-nay on the tea tree oil with the open ones. OUCH!!!! I find the tea tree oil keeps them from getting to a spot where that would be enticing... but I suppose for a picker that doesn't help much. Yes, rosemary is good for dandruff and it is soothing! I used bcmama's recipe and made up some for my hair and the next day my head didn't itch anymore. This was a few weeks ago when I was having real trouble with the itching. Maybe go buy some herb to try out... I think you will like the feel.
Yeah I miss Boots (I used to live in the UK) but I'll probably be able to find it at my health food store. My itchy head is driving me crazy!
haha. i know why i keep breaking out tho, its my shitty diet, and im not doing anything about it cause all i wanna eat lately is either junk or nothing =/
shady grove is right X a billion ik what you mean smelly about liking the clean feeling, but i get that from washing with water, and it stays. i dont get nasty itchy stuff a few days later. daisy, what i do is just wash (rinse and massage) every time it starts to itch or feel gross at all. it might be after two days at first, but eventually it takes longer for it to get icky. i usually wash every two weeks now, often longer. ik soaps are fun and smell nice, and washing with just water probably isnt for everyone. but ive had such good results that i think it should be tried by anyone who has scalp problems
im trying to remember... lol but it was last summer i guess, and i just swam in the ocean tons instead of washing... i cant remember when or why i decided to not use soap, but i know i didnt purposely do anything to wean my scalp off it. i just went for it i think. i think its important to realize that nothing is stopping you from washing your hair if you want to. if you dont like the feeling of it (itchy, greasy, flakey, smelly) just give a good rubbing under warm water. that always fixes the problem for me, and as long as your hair is drying in between, you can do it as often as you like with no ill effects. in fact, damp hair seems to dread faster. like i said, i only have to do that every couple of weeks, but last summer, i was washing every two days in the ocean. though, my scalp would get itchy from the salt water that i didnt care enough to wash out. i dont reccommend that, im just lazy. anyway, id be surprised if your scalp reacted negatively to the absence of soap. in my case at least, mine was doing the opposite. it was the soap it didnt like and once i stopped with that, i had a happier scalp.
yarp. maybe ill wash them tnite with kboy for the last time and try just water for a few months, see what happens =] thankyou for the input peoples
Alright, today was day 3 and normally I would wash, but I tried just to rub my scalp under the hot water. Fingers crossed.
i use a mixture of rose oil, vanilla oil, and jojoba oil mixed with water to refresh the scalp and make my dreads smell sweet and flowery. i'm always getting compliments on the way my hair smells awesome.
I've tried all kinds of rinses with different ingredients, but always, on the second day after washing I have two tiny places on my scalp that itch incessantly. Finally I hit on the perfect thing for me...1 litre of warm water, 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt (use less if you're using fine), and 2 drops of peppermint essential oil. Since both places that drive me crazy are on the back of my head, I bend over and pour it there, but make sure the rest of my dreads get soaked, too. Oh, and hi! I don't think I've posted here before even though I joined a while back.
i was using 500ml warm water, about 50g bicarb, half a teaspoon of coarse sea salt and a few drops of tea tree.. i think the salt dried my scalp out farrr too much for my liking =/ maybe im not using enough water?
I've added some rosemary to my mix (plus everything Smelly wrote) and it seems to be working better than ever!
When i had this issue i just tried not scratching as much as possible..i know its hard, i failed at not scratching, ...and use the same "mix" / soap on your head for a few weeks, Let your scalp adjusted to it and find its natural balance. I haven't had to scratch in a while..but it comes back when ever i change my "mix" or use a different soap...then it goes away as quickly as it came, about a week of putting up with it. Consistency is the key! peace.
i know, like i said, i failed at not scratching, but..i kept my soap the same and it settled to the point where i never scratch...initially it took about a month to settle but now i can change soap and it only takes a few days to adjust.
this is just me, personally, but the knotty boy peppermint spray works really well and the smell locks into your dreads. I spray it on after I wash them so they dry with it on. And if I feel itchy I spray it inbetween them at the roots and it totally takes the itch away. Not bad for a $25 bottle of crap that better work, since it's hella expensive and super small.
I think I've said this before, but it REALLY works! a bit of tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle, spray in on the itchy spot between shampoos and massage it into the scalp. it really makes the itchiness go away. I love tea tree oil!!
