Thanks for the responses to part 1, my friends. OK well it seems about 5 were part hippie and one person was full hippie. A couple answered 3 and 4 and the majority fell outside my categories. So of that last group, how did you end up on the hipforums in the first place? Did you do a search for hippies and found this board? And if so, why did you do a search for hippies? Did you initially think you were a hippie but then when you got here you changed your mind? Or maybe you are more interested in the culture of the 60s in general? Or another reason altogether? Please note that I'm not suggesting in any way that people who aren't hippies/part hippies aren't allowed here. Just curious!
A friend and I were searching for a song (don't remember which) and there was a thread about it on this board...so we signed up and started posting.
i think i found this site by doing some search, dunno what it was for...im thinking a marijuana search or something, not so sure...but i checked it out and decided this place was cool so I signed up and now i'm happily addicted to the forums
hmmm.... I was looking for infos on the fashion in the mid-sixties, I stumbled across hipplanet, and went to see the hipforums.....and Tadam!
With reference to the first thread. When I joined (eighteen months or so ago) was convinced of being a category one. A very bizzare and false to the point of ironic assumption. Used to love digging the whole scene and such, took pride in scoring high in that stupid how hippy are you quiz. At one point I even wanted to go by Flower. So far so fluffy-bunny*. Fortunatly had the good sense not to let this embarrasing behaviour offline. Despite the high hip quota, at heart I was still a cynical repressed cow, basically everything in opposition to hip. Now I've swung the other way and honestly don't care for being a hippy. It's been a long slog (even had to call in a theraphist) but now I'm existing far more in the spirit of the hippy mindset. Though I never concern myself with fitting into stereotypes and the associated ideas. I'm just myself, if that is apparently hippy so be it. I'm sticking around because there are great people here and there forums catering for my slightly eccentric interests. It's almost a love affair. *A term usually associated with aspiring wiccans, but the principle in universal. Basically someone who has grasped the crudest basics of an ideaology to which they are stubbornly devoted and tend to go very overboard with it and/or ask very daft questions.
I was looking for a good philosophy forum last year around May and, what do you know, heres the hipforums. Then I met Gibson (--Love--) if any of you remember him and we fell in internet love. Then it ended, now I'm back and loving it. I love it here, and the people are so friendly and warm and the spirit of Jerry Garcia lingers within many of our hearts!
I came here in April of this year, but I don't remember how... I kind of took a sabbatical from the place because it was really addicting, but I just couldn't resist another 4 months of no one to get into heated conversations with. I love this place because there are people here from all walks of life. We have youngins and we have old hippies and we have college party-goers and we have working mothers. There's so much discussion here on some of the most interesting topics, topics that I've never discussed anywhere else. I can explore into the deepest recesses of my mind; the people here really make me think. We have fun at the same time, joking about the most random of things. But, however different we all may be, we still love each other and we still with-hold that sense of peace and tranquility. Oh, and I like the sex.
i needed someone to relate to lol! there arent any hippie-types at my school.. i have friends but i dont relate to them at all, so i found a site that i could find just a couple for giggles ;-)
I'm here because I don't know anyone in real life like the people on here.... it's rather strange, yet rather great. I found this forum while searching for views from older people... and I found the forum after reading the "Old Hippy" section on hippy.com
I second that. Heehee... really, I think I came here from hippy.com... I don't know how I ended up there... hmmm. I stayed here because I fell in love with a bunch of ya, and can't wait to fall in love with the rest of ya!
I am in prison this is only one of a few websites i am allowed to visited during my computer sesssion time.
I was searching for environmental issues and conflicting views...and came upon the site...and went from there Now I love it here.
I think a lot of us were searching for info. SitarEric found the site when he googled "I need to know the truth" he was on shrooms at the time... I found that hilarious when he first told me.
yah they say I cannoit talk to normal people cause of the crime i did, they say hippies are ok to talk too tho
Don't think I posted on part 1...but, my friend Trauma got me hooked on hipgallery & the forums during christmas-New Years 2003/2004. If traveling cross country alot on a bus, going barefoot alot, tie-dyed clothes, refusing to file taxes for last 4-5 yrs, disapproving of war, yoga, liking alternative medicine makes me a hippie then thats fine with me.
I was very hippy and I guess along the journey of self I've become 80sfied quite a bit; but I came here as I was bored typed in hippy.com liked what I saw stumbled across this liked what I saw and stayed. I can say there is few people I know outside this who interest me more, who I can have the kind of conversations that is so wide as here
