i'm still considered to be living in the country; that's what the county and state says, i say it sure seems like the suburbs to me! this area i live in has been annexed by the city of shit city (san antonio.) i spend alot of time in austin, which is a liberal city. i love living in liberal cities! i hate living in conservative cities! i would to move back to seattle if i could; i just can't get anyone to buy this house right now! last year it was apprased at $ 293,000.00. when my parents bought this house back in 1965 it cost $ 53,000.00. the country is alright, just boring as all hell at times. city or country is fine with me; i've lived in both, but the suburbs suck!
Now that I'm a little older I much prefer the country. I live in the desert about 30 minutes from a major city, and there's a mountain range between here and there, which tends to isolate us from the city both physically and psychologically. I also have several thousand acres of county park adjacent to my property ... it's all open desert, criss-crossed with hiking trails, and almost no one ever goes out there except me. There's lots of wildlife out there, as well as interesting geological formations. Plus the solitude, which I crave. It's like having a wilderness next door.
I prefer the county also. I lived off-the-grid for over 10 years during the 1970s early 80s, on 160 acre Oregon homestead. I have lived in several different cities since then. We are looking to get back to country now that our kids are grown up and out of the house (we are empty-nesters). I want to start a family farm and grow our own food, etc. The kids can live there too, with their families.
Currently live in a medium sized city. (135,000 POP) I'd love to live in the country HOWEVER, I've adapted to being so close to everything in the city. Plus, I don't drive so living in the country would make it difficult to get to places. Put it to you this way. I'd enjoy living in the city MUCH, MUCH more if I had no neighbours around me.
I live in a suburb and would like to live in the city. Cities are more closely connected in culture and organization (for protests! *wink*). It's not that I hate quiet and nature - I just want to feel I'm in a place that is alive and progressive.
Long time, but yeah as most know the economy is doing terrible. But the property thing happened a few years ago before his mess. No we sold it about a month after we took our house down for sale, we couldn't afford paying for it with the house we have.
I've lived in the country or in small country towns my whole life, a year or so ago I moved in with a friend of mine up in Indianapolis and I absolutly hated it! Couldn't hardy see any stars at night, the air seems so much thicker up there too, and so little peace and quiet. I'm country and I will always be.
out of these options definatley country. i love it. but give me the coast over anything else. sadly i dont live in either place at the moment.
I grew up in Phoenix, AZ. Bland, hot desert. We visited Chipley, FL and I was, like, "ooh, pretty green. Let's move here." *stupid.stupid.stupid* I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I probably wouldn't mind it if it was a more liberal area. But people are so hateful here. I can't stand it. I also feel like there are a lot more opportunities in the City. I used to live in Madison,WI and Boston, MA, I loved living in those places. Green, more liberal and plenty to do and see. Especially Boston.
The country is just perfect i love the peaceful mindset. Plus people mind their own business and you can live your life the way you want to.
Lived in the country for a few years and despite the peace, quiet and friendly neighbours, would not go back. Would never want a car-based lifestyle again.
You mean that you needed a car to get around the countryside? There was no public transit? What about bicycling?
Well I was born in a small town, and I live in a small town, probably die in a small town. Thats probably where they'll bury me. Sorry, that song was just playin.
I want to live in the country. Away from everyone & everything. I used to live there as a young child & I miss it. I currently live in the suburbs & I hate it with a passion.
Grew up in NYC loved it - left when I was 18- (actually, it wasn't my choice) Lived for periods - in the country, other cities, suburbs, mountains, etc,,, from coast to coast...... The last 13 years Ive lived in a beach town on the Jersey Shore- - This is where I,ll probably retire JJack
I have lived in both urban and rural settings and between the two I definitely prefer the rural country lifestyle. The peace and quiet; walking barefoot into the dew covered grass on a spring morning; the fresh air; the wildlife; all things you can never find in the city and to me those are things that make life worth living.
