hell yeah communes still exist, all over the world..check out ic.org, you can list by type of community, by state, by country, all that i would love to live in a loving community
yeah i know that there is one in VA called Twin Oaks its awesome im going to visit for three weeks maybe to see if i can reall "feel it"
Yes, of course. They always have and likely always will. Some are small scale, only a few people in the middle of nowhere, some are huge. Most are always changing with people floating in and out. What does this mean, most communes usually have a weak link or two who bring the whole thing down. Most communes don't work but I have seen a few decent ones in my time.
i think i rescind my original statement because i cant think of anyone in the world who i could live with out in the middle of nowhere, with no escape, who i wouldnt get annoyed living with, within such confined living space, and without a real life purpose other than.. gardening and building stuff with my hands, for an extended amount of time. i thought it could work, but then i remembered im not really a hippie. im a little too in touch with reality to let this fantasy go on any further in mind.
yes and yes... like was mentioned above.. www.ic.org BUT this site likes to leave up communes that have failed or never really existed ever..
its , pretty much freedom..you couldnt dig that? i mean that doesnt just sound neautiful and lik,e the perfect life to you? living just totally out there in the world, doing whatever you want to do, anytime you want, with no restrictions..getting in touch with nature, playing guitar and singing and being as loud as you want to be..sounds like livin to me
thats what i was thinking when i first posted this, but then i remembered that it is not possible. technically youre not free to do anything you want if you have to worry about your subsistance. and living among others would place a lot of restrictions on how you conduct yourself. and simultaneously you are affected by the group you live with - i think problems and social issues are unavoidable.
There are lots of them and some not even on that website that I know of. If I was single I would consider living on one. Thanks for posting ic.org. It was interesting to learn of more and to see their populations, government systems etc.
looks to me like what you could use is a big ass house in the middle of nowhere and a few friends to populate it with you.
hmmmmm my brother and I live in the woods, hippying out, with friends coming over on occaision to hippie with us..... DANG I LIVE ON A COMMUNE!! woohoo!
Well I can't say I know too much about communes but I would definitely be up for trying it. Seems like something you'd either love or hate. According to that site there's one in Worchester, Ma that sounds pretty cool.
