I love Johnny Depp, but I didn't find this film interesting, I actually got quite bored... I didn't like the way it ended either. I dunno *shrugs* I prefer Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat, Finding Neverland and, of course, Pirates of the Caribbean. They're all classics.
I really liked this movie but I didnt really care much for Helena Carter. Ive only seen one movie that I liked she played in (novacaine, great movie). I liked Johnny Depp in this movie as allways, hes a very convincing actor. I was thinking that he wasnt going to get to kill the judge because what turned out to be his lovers curiousity. Does the book explain if his daughter and that young man ran away together or did she flee because of seeing crazy todds bloody face. The chair was preety funny to watch though.
it's really more bloody than gorey. you see way more blood than guts. I hate gorey movies too but it didn't even factor in with sweeney todd
The ending seemed kinda abrupt to me, and much of the movie was really predictable. I loved the artistic nature of the movie and watching depp sing. =). Also, the use of blood in the movie was interesting.
I thought it was really good. I've never seen the original so I really have nothing to compare it to. The soundtrack rocks!
i loved it, johnny depp was worried because he had to sing, and he didnt think he was really great of a singer, but i think he did good. and hes amazing in all of his movies. and i love helena too shes really great.
I thought the singing was terrible except for a few notes here and there. The throat slashing was gruesome. I loved the cosutmes and the sets though.
i love the music.. not fond of the way they did it.. i mean it was alright.. and as much as i love johnny depp, i just didn't see his heart in this movie.. helena though... oh swoon!!! she is amazing! still i will be playing mrs. lovett at burning man with a friend of mine going as mr. todd. should be fun!!
I thought it was a fantastic movie. Helena Bonham Carter is one of my favorite actresses, and Depp is a given. Beautiful set too.
It was an amazing film. You have to take it and the stage musical as separate entities, though--you can't say the movie is better than the stage production or vice versa because they're very different and both equally amazing in different ways.
My thoughts entirely. I wrote one of my movie reviews of this when it came out and it is still posted on the site that I left (because of right-wing nuts attacking me. I took refuge here and stayed). Anyhow here is my review of Sweeney Todd: http://www.extremegossip.com/showthread.php?t=9496 And an excerpt: "You may have guessed by now that I really liked this movie. It is another brooding character for Depp, which he portrays so well but there was criticism by some (Those stage-play culture types no doubt) who dissed Depp's and Carter's singing. But, could a good singer have pulled off the rest of the acting that these two did so well? Again, it's a movie not a play, and a damned good one at that."
