Alright so I tried this idea once before, but the problem there was it was trying to see what people thought about other countries who have actually traveled there, and if you done so then by all means share actual information. But fuck it let's do something more fun, what stereotypes do you hold of other countries 1st Canada -Clean, I always have this idea that if I go to Canada it will be like a Singapore level of clean in the cities. -Quebec is full of assholes who even the French themselves don't like, the rest of Canada is cool though -Dull, Canada just really seems uninteresting, like America light, Quebec is your Louisiana. You have french speaking people and weed, we have french speaking people and mardi gras -Good weed -Wouldn't really feel like I'm in a different country in the slightest -People say eh? a lot United Kingdom -Goofiest accents in the English speaking world, sorry chaps but it's just you English too, Scottish people have killer accents -And further onto language, when you get a really, really, really heavy English or Scottish accent, to us it might as well sound like a different language. -Lots of drunk people stumbling around -Lots of kids with knives -Everyone is depressed because it rains so much -The weed is shitty Ireland -Lots of drunk people, but everyone is so use to being drunk that drunk is the new sober -Lots of green fields -If you mention Britain you'll start a bar fight of epic size Germany -Punctual, the Germans seem very on time people and if you're late you might get slapped -There's beer everywhere and it's awesome beer -Still massive national guilt problem about the whole Hitler thing -The entire country would seem pissed off since German just comes off as a very angry language Netherlands -Everyone I know who's been to Amsterdam, while not so much as true anymore always advises to just go to Canada instead because away from the coffee shops Amsterdam is a shit hole where you have to constantly be worried about being pickpocketed, so I don't trust the Dutch, unless they're Belgian Dutch -Tulips, lots of tulips
I don't really like where this is going. Personally, I don't have a lot of stereotypes about other countries that I've never been to. I try to focus more on their politics, their governments, their cultures and less on what I judge their society or landscapes to be like.
Oh everyone has them and culture often plays into them Like Russians, no one here can honestly say they don't hold the joke in their mind that Russians drink a lot of vodka And statistically compared to most other countries, Russians do in fact drink a lot of vodka
You're first stereotype about the Netherlands is much more a stereotype about the city Amsterdam. They're not pickpocketting that much in the rest of the Netherlands. The tulip one is more typical though, just like that it's covered in coffeeshops, cheese, weed, mills and wooden shoes. When I think of England I think of teatime and scones. Russians I picture with a big moustache, a bottle of wodka indeed and these kind of hats: Every sensible person knows not to take stereotypes too seriously. What's not to like?
Americans: overweight yet obsessed with themselves and megalomaniacal to the rest of the world. They're also all in debt.
When I think of the middle-east I think of Islamic extremeists and angry, very angry men with turbans and beards and tough looking faces, haha. America: Overweight, money-obsessed, concerned about everyone else but think they're fine, an overbearing government because most are too stupid to do anything for themselves (and yes, I live in this country) Canada: Generally quite nice, polite people eh, I feel like I just don't feel...comfortable expressing anything else. I try not to stereotype but of course they still exist. I don't have to blindly think that way, but stereotypes exist in American society and in all societies.
when i think of japan i think of a bunch of nerdy little men running around on their cell phones to an office job then returning home to draw little girls being raped or play video games.
Lol...how can an English person have a " really, really, really heavy English accent? :smilielol5: True, I'll be stumbling around too. As it is St Georges day and my birthday on the 23rd of April. True. But more don't. It was quite warm here today, actually. I'd say there are more non descript days here than any specific weather trend. The weather is usually what occured 150 years ago in London. Rather than what the weather is actually like now, imo. Sometimes. Americans: Fiercly independent. Rather keep their money to themselves, rather than giving it up in taxes. But cry about their health system, social security system and pretty much anything that could be helped with higher taxes. See anything the government does as an infringement of their constitutional rights. Quite a lot of them are obese. Canadians: They say oot and aboot quite a lot. They are the nicer version of Americans. The LOVE hockey. They make some good TV or facilitate the production of good TV. They are polite and neighbourly, probably make you a pie if you asked nicely.
Lots of cows in the Neatherlands too and when my dad went to go visit his brothers a few years ago, he came back with photos and they were at a farm wearing clogs
its weird that they try to make something natural out to be bad liek that, reminds me of something...
Italy is full of assholes who think that they're beloved country is the best in the world (trust me, I've been there) France is full of smokers and wine drinkers. The men get trashed off of like 2 glasses. The women have hairy armpits. Germany is full of angry people and hard workers, as well as amazing beer. I have no opinions on Switzerland besides them being neutral for like 500 years, so they must be pussies.
the caribbean is full of tourist traps and old black women trying to sell you shitty t-shirts that say things like "I <3 NY!" and "Life is Good!" good times
pretty much true apart from the britain thing, thats all more or less blown over now but with trouble in the north starting again it might not stay that way. For the most part though theres never trouble over that. As for stereotypes: America. - No/shit sense of humour. - Loads of obese people, fast food places everywhere. - Lots of guns - Crap accents and always finishing sentences by ascending the pitch of the end of it...if you get what I mean, like "oh my gaWD" haha - Cant drink for shit - Loads of shops...too many shops and shopaholics - Too many shallow plastic people. I could go on but with most people on here being yanks I think i'll leave it at that hahaha
