So, I am getting a new laptop. I know nil when it comes to computers, so I was hoping the intelligence of the lounge could point me in the right direction...

My comp will mainly be for music and the net, maybe an emulator or two on there.

If any more information is needed, lemme know.

    :cheers2:

    You called?

I'd get a macbook. For media, browsing, music, etc. I'm sure the new ones with excellent graphics cards for emulating are up in price though. But I'm sure you could find one that suits your taste.

if you have money to spare, go with a macbook.. but if you're trying to save as much, obviously, the best choice is a pc. Just buy one of those pre-built laptops at some futureshop or bestbuy. Can't go wrong.

Yeah, if you can't afford a mac right now just go for a pc with a nice big screen.

I personally dislike mac's unless it's a macbook, but get a macbook, cause it would fit your needs perfectly. But if you can't pay 1700 for a laptop go to best buy and buy something with a good nvidia graphics card, and a amd turion X2 64 bit processor. Make sure you have a good amount of ram(500mb would be ok) Make sure you buy one with a big battery, and make sure you have enough harddrive space, like 100gb's.

And then you should be good.

I was told first know your budget. Then don't go any higher because "it looks good". Try and get as much memory for your price range.
Vista uses up atleast 1GB Memory. So go above 2GB Memory if you can.
I wouldn't get a huge hard drive with endless memory because you can add to it (buy an external hard drive). Plus. If you see a computer you like...look up that particular model elsewhere. You just might find it cheaper.

    Hope that helps.

You don't need to pay 1700 for a macbook. White models on clearance for a g. I think I paid 1300 for mine a couple of weeks ago. Plus kiddies students get discounts

Welcome does :D :D :D if you go with a PC you should get a Sony Vaio or a Dell IMO. my parents have been through so many gateways and other shit. My sony vaio outlasted 4 of their fucking computers. Then my mom got a vaio :p but yeah if you are thinking you want a mac. get one. i've heard its best to save up for the macbook pro though if you're gonna get a mac laptop. just what i heard though, never used either of em. I love my iMac though

All of the advice in this thread is complete shit.

You should never ask dumb teenagers for computer advice.

You could get any used computer with at least a gig of ram and a 128mb (Shared memory) video card... and you will be set.

    Shouldn't cost more than 300$-400$.

Unless you wanna be a good consumer and buy a new shit computer with a million specs that you don't need.

so true. i have a dell inspiron 9100 thats 5 years old. i dont know anyone who has a laptop that long.

ive had problems, but they can be fixed and a computer can last if your dont need the latest flashy one.

but some ppl like computers alot and want new one..i totally understand.

id love a macbook, but i cant drop a grand like that and not hate myself.

i can browse hipforums and look at porn just fine on this old dinosaur haha
