Grow logs are always fun, what the benefit of WBS over BRF? Only time I tried something other than cakes was popcorn and they got green mold like a bitch.
You have to buy a special kind of pop corn. Thats probably the reason for contams. Use grain or wild bird seed.
Case WBS, yes. I'm planning on a Rez effect (1:1 field capacity verm) but I may switch it up, I'm still undecided.
:cheers2: Send good energy, all! I'm hoping the Earth appreciated my contribution to the fungi kingdom on Earth day
I'd venture to say that you're gonna get contams. Really, really bad. It needs to be at 15 PSI for at least 30 minutes, I usually do an hour or more. And fuck the Rez-Effect, look into coco coir/verm/coffee bulk substrates, then case with a 50/50+. It can give just as good of results as straw/poo.
I've read differently. I'm not too worried, either. I've read things saying 15 PSI for 45 is sufficient, and I was on 15 for a good 20 of the total 45 I was at. I was looking at other bulk substrates, but I'm not finding many useful teks for coir. I thought it was for casing?
You can use coir in your substrate. The only tek I can think of off the top of my head is the hunter tek (some guy on shroomtalk) but I know there's plenty of others I just read his recently though. It's in the All in One section of the grow teks on shroomtalk. I haven't really seen any significant difference flush density wise between a tek using coir and the rez
Coir is basically just an added Bulk Substrate in most cases when it's used. I've never really been much of a fan... Straw and Manure have always proven golden in my experience. But there are TONS of other Bulks that can be used that probably work as well, or better.
But it's supposed to be at 15 PSI for 45 minutes straight. Not on the burner for 45 minutes. That's not long enough to kill most spores that arent germinated, much less endospores. It can be for casing, but it's not very good. Casing layers are supposed to be non-nutritious. They block out contams, give structure and act as a water reservoir. Since coir is nutritious to fungi, it can get contams before it's colonized. I never understood why people used coir for casing. I use the Hunter Tek, basically. I use 60/40 verm/coir, then 10% of the mass in spent coffee grounds. Case with a 50/50+. You can get great results with this, and coir and coffee are just cleaner than straw/poo. Because it's not much easier than using a bulk, and by simply adding in some coir to your vermiculite, you'll get better results, ie: more flushes & bigger mushrooms.
K shits, definitely cooked. I've got a little more spore solution, enough for two jars. I'll probably be getting some more bird seed and starting over then to a g2g transfer for more jars
