My brother just bought a really small laptop from Wal-Mart for $300. It seems a little too cheap for a laptop, even if it is small. Does anybody know anything about this computer. I can't even remember what it's called. But I'm just hoping he didn't get ripped off. He tends to make impulse buys without researching first. Anybody that knows about this laptop or has experience, please let me know if he got as good of a deal as he thinks.
these are called netbooks. i`m not sure, but i don`t think they have wifi. & they don`t have much memory.
Laptops this size Tisha Mc? if so yes they're netbooks, what do you need to know? Can you tell me the brand also.
I think theyre best for surfing and using mobile...no disk drives/burners etc...but Im pretty sure with external hard drives and stuff they can be used for lots of stuff Not a bad price for a computer for a kid Edit:8 gig??...that sure aint much memory
Is it, perhaps a Dell Mini9? They are decent for the casual usage. Terrible for gaming or anything real heavy on processor or gpu. If it's a Mini9 with the solid state disk, it should have a decent battery life for it's size. Still, the battery will not last a really long time like a Mac tho. If he can afford it, it should be fine.
I know very little about computers, in any shape and form. This one has acer written on it as well as aspire one. I'm not sure if either of those are what it's called. He hasn't let me touch it, so I'm not sure what it's like to surf with. But it does have wifi. I think he said it was like 8 gigs. But that means nothing to me. I'm just worried about it crapping out on him too soon.
yeah then its the one i linked.. maybe someone can give you a better review now that they know what it is..
The new Acer Aspire netbook is actually a good product. Usually Acer has cheap hardware, but the software on the new Aspire is top of the line. The hardware will fail long before the software could even skip a beat. This is a laptop that will never have a virus or malware problem. :cheers2:
I have an Asus Eee which is pretty much the same thing. For the same $300 I got the netbook running XP, a 60G external USB drive, an 8G flash drive, a Skype headset (the Asus comes with Skype), neoprene glove cases for all and a canvas messenger bag to haul it all in. For another $15 I got a mobile charger so I can plug up in the car or on the road. Works great, you can bootleg wifi at any Panera Bread or Starbucks, make Skype to Skype calls to family and friends free and if you're brave it all fits in a set of cargo pockets. But I wouldn't bike with it in them... It's a good road/backpacking system. Keep a lookout for deals.
The internal flash drives are better than hard drives, for mobile users. Hard drives have moving parts and spinning platters. These parts tend to break, especially if the laptop is banged around a lot. Also, it's not good to move a laptop around when it's running if it has a hard drive. The flash drives have no moving parts. Basically, if you don't drop it hard enough to crack or dislodge something, it probably won't damage things. Also, you can move it around when it's turned on without worry.
I have a ASUS eeepc 701 that I've been using as basically a knock around web surfing machine for over a year. I couldn't do real work on one though, too small.
I have read up on those. There is 2 versions the Linux one and a more expensive one that doesn't use a flash HDD and runs Windows XP. The reviews for the Linux version are pretty good (I don't remember seeing reviews for the windows version.
Go here, check out Linux Mint, download the liveCD and try it. It will NOT touch your hardrive. You will like it. Plays 99.9% of all media files right off the bat! Thank me later! http://www.linuxmint.com/
