so my gf and i usually have something fun to do on dates, like playing music together, skateboarding, playing sports, cooking together, sometimes she helps me with my podcast, or we go to concerts and stuff
but i was wondering what ideas other people have for interesting dates! i mean, dinner and a movie is great and all...but we always end up not watching the movie hahahhaa, and since it's summer i kind of want to do some things outside!
    anyway
i'm interested to hear what everyone else does on dates! any really active or artistic ideas would be fantastic!
but nothing involving drugs or drinking because she's not into that at all~ and cheap is good too! (im between jobs at the moment, my new one doesn't start for another week, so she keeps paying for things and it makes me feel bad :( )
    so, ideas?

Dates don't have to cost money. Some of the most romantic ones between my husband & I have cost nothing - or nearly so. It's not about the money, and shouldn't be... it's about enjoying one anothers company.

A few of our own favorites have been & are:
    * Going on a picnic - but in unexpected times & places like in the rain, at midnight during a meteor shower, or in front of a fire during a snowstorm... unique "themed" foods can be fun too; sometimes we do Greek, sometimes "finger foods" and sometimes simply our favorites.
    * Helping out at a charity function together... find one you both can agree with, and spend the day helping others.
    * Checking out a museum on their "free days" (check the internet, MOST have at least one free or discounted day per week/month) and discussing the "motive" behind the most absurd pieces we found.
    * Taking a hike in the woods, biking a trail, going swimming at the beach, or rock-climbing together.
    * Checking the library for FREE movie rentals!
    * During the spring/summer, we have a lot of "concert/Shakespeare in the park" opportunities to go see live entertainment for free... we've gone to many, and have NEVER been disappointed!
    * "Borrowing" a niece/nephew or two, and taking them to a zoo, the park, or just to your house for a backyard picnic & finger-painting or bubble-blowing contest... kids can bring out the "fun" in just about anyone.
    * Saving up, and getting a membership to a historical society or something similar where there are TONS of sites within the state/area to visit, all covered under the same membership. (STILL a favorite Christmas gift because it promises future dates!)
    * In the winter, going ice-skating, sledding or on a winter drive through the country (with our only "accessories" being a thermos of spiced cider & a camera) are always fun.
    * Finding interesting historical facts about our area, and checking them out... like the gangster hideaways, and seeing places where other famous/infamous people lived.
    * Checking out an art-crawl... with or without ready cash, it is ALWAYS worth talking to the people at these events!!!
    * Read poetry, or a looong book together. If you don't appreciate poetry, might I recommend Very Bad Poetry by Ross Petras? It will have you laughing for hours.
    * If you live near a candy factory, check to see if they give free tours... they're always fun, and you get a free goodie at the end! :)
    * and just for kicks & giggles, we invented a "game" called "the $5 game. We go to the least likely store we can think of, (hardware store, dollar store, parts-and-pieces store, secondhand store) and each person tries to find the most thoughtful gift NOT to exceed $5 for the other within 30 minutes.

I know I'm missing millions... we've been together now for over 17 years and - well, it wasn't for money. ;) Creativity has always seemed a much more fun resource than ready cash to us, and I expect that it always will be. Good luck!
    love,
    mom
