I was at the gas station, and there was a woman in there barefoot. She struck up a conversation, and I gave her my phone #. Later that night we decided to hang out. So we just drove around and talked. I decided to go to wal mart, and she walked into wal mart barefoot like it was second nature. I'll be moving soon, so unfortunately nothing will grow from this. But it was awesome to go out with a barefoot chick even for a night.
Barefoot chicks? Far out, man! But seriously, I hear you. It's always nice to find someone of like mind. I assume that you were barefoot the entire time as well...
this whole barefoot thing is insane to me.... where im from we don't need to label ourselves "barefooters" we walk around bare footed and that's just the way it is, I can't believe its an actual recognized "lifestyle" not hatin... just sayin is all...
I know what you're sayin, MaryJ, and if we all lived somewhere where it's common to walk around barefoot I'm sure we'd all be saying the same. However, the fact is we don't. In most places it's considered anything from eccentric to downright disgusting to walk around barefoot, and at least in my part of the world you never see anyone barefoot (it's become less and less common to the point of extinction). So I guess we are attracted to this forum for reassurance that we are not all nuts!
Not to sound too critical, MaryJ, but you really need to get out more. Like you, bare feet are quite common in the places where I choose to live (on some islands, shoes are the exception). This does not mean, however, that there are not other places where the opposite is true. Understanding other cultures and the perspectives and issues of those who live in them is key to getting along in the world. Although I quite agree that the practice of persecuting those who don't wear shoes is "insane", the reality is that this persecution is prevalent in many major countries. The banding together of like-minded individuals in order to work toward establishing what should be inalienable rights, as well as share common interests and problems is far from "insane". I would counter that is is one of the healthiest of outlets and that participation in said groups is a sign of a well-balanced individual. Just imagine what the world would be like if Martin Luther King had decided that resistance to racism was "insane" because people of color weren't persecuted in Kenya at that time. Kind of goofy, no?
trust hf to find people who can create drama out of nothing.... IMO, I think it's crazy, cause it's foreign to me....I love how people can manage to turn a simple observation into a global crisis
Thanks for sharing the experience. I sometimes think it's awkward that I don't wear shoes when I go on dates, so I would love to meet a barefoot hippie girl who was the same way.
I met a barefoot woman in Greenwich Village years ago and we started dating. I said to her "I see we like the same style and color shoes!" because her feet were black like mine. Unfortunately she moved away but it was great to be with someone else who enjoyed going barefoot as much as I do. Her mom used to be a barefooter before they moved into the City. Her mom's soles were very calloused. She didn't have a problem with us having filthy feet in the somewhat upscale apartment. Unfortunately, today you never see anyone barefoot on the street. Maybe someone who slipped off shoes while on a blanket on the grass in Central Park.
