US voting day, tell us your story

Can those Americans here please tell us what’s happening in your area.

    How did you vote?

    What’s the turn out like?

    What’s the media saying?

    Any stories, about the day?

No stories. I was in & out in less then 5 minutes. The only thing that was a bit freaky is that they didn't check my I.D., so I could have said I was anyone, and I received no receipt from the electronic voting machine.

Libertarian - Michael Badnarik/Richard Campagna (president)
Libertarian - Don Silberger (US Senate)

The rest were pretty much all third party/independent candidates, with the exception of one Democrat running for congressman.

They were standard voting machines used here.

I got back about an hour ago. I made sure I got there early enough. I was in and out in like 3 minutes.

The news reports said the best times to vote is about 9:30am to 11:30 and 1:30pm to 3:30pm. But should still expect a short wait during these times.

This avoids people voting on their way to work, voting during lunch, and voting after work.

i basically voted the democrat ticket across the board.

not on principal, but because they had the best candidates from the choices given.

at 8am there were about 30-40 people in the voting room. district lines were 5-7 persons long on average.

no one talked much or joked. even the friends i went with got serious when we got inside.

    no id was asked for.

I got there when they opened, there was a somewhat long line but it wasn't a big deal, I only waited like a half hour. I had my mom and sis to talk to, that helped. It was good to see so many people out voting, quite a few young people, amazing for 7 AM!

They never seem to check IDs, which kind of pisses me off. They have you put your address and name on a card, check the card against the registration list, and give you a ballot. Why the hell don't they just look at my ID? It's stupid...

The news isn't saying much yet, it's too early in the day.

i dont' know what its like to actually vote up here in the town i'm in for school.

but it cost me 67 cents to send in my ballot and it was the same size as a regular letter that is sent out for 37 cents...fucking bullshit

Well I voted early last week so no peoblems there but I still waited an hour.

I actually work at a school that is also a voting precinct so I've been literally looking in the hall way to see how many [people are in line and it has been out of the door since 7 am when i came to work and pols only opened at 6:30 am.

I think a larger number of americans will have there say this year.

Voted at 12:30, took me 15 mins. There were some reports in austin that voting the straight democratic ticket would place your vote for Kerry, but that was most likely error on the voter's part. The electronic voting booths were pretty easy to use.

Oh, and for the other Austinites on the forum, i votes YES on the lightrail!

Voted at 1:30 with my g/f and I was in the booth in under a minute. Two more votes for Kerry and two votes to split Colorados electoral votes between the candidates. Voted for a lot of third party candidates in state and local offices.

I needed an ID, had to fill out a signature card... and then they wrote down my ballot number by my name in the log. I don't like that. Isn't it illegal to be able to track a ballot to a voter?

    How did you vote?

Democratic ticket, Against gay marriage amendment, For Columbus smokefree ordinance, For Columbus School Levy

    What’s the turn out like?

Loooooong lines. I was in line for a couple hours.

    What’s the media saying?

    Don't know yet.

    Any stories, about the day?

I saw an old man (must have been in his 70's-80's) with a cane wearing an anti-bush button stand in line for an hour and a half. Pretty impressive. No controversy. I was expecting to see some "Official" challengers from the Republican Party, but I guess since my precinct is strongly Democratic they went elsewhere...

I voted Libertarian and for a truly independant, no party candidate for state house.

I voted Yes on proposition 2, to legalize marijuana and to protect our rights to privacy in our homes.

It's still early here so no real word on how everyone is voting.

I vote in a bar so I had a pint or Guinness in my hand as I voted.

Well there wasn't anyone there but myself, and a lady who had her child on a leash...which was quite amusing.

I waited in line for about 1 hour. There was one person handing out ballots!? I can't stand ill-prepared crap like that, there should not have been a wait.
I voted Kerry, Democrat for senator and a couple other Dems, a Libertarian and a Republican.
Our state is slowly going for Kerry, it's very close though.
I give up. Canada is beautiful no?
