This e-mail was sent to my college e-mail address today: "California Borough Police received a report on April 29, 2009 that two California University students were robbed at gunpoint at approximately 1:50 am on First Street by two unknown males. One victim was also punched in the face. The suspects fled the scene when California Borough Police arrived. One suspect was Caucasian with a goatee and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, the other was African-American. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the California Borough Police. Members of the university are urged to take appropriate precautions such as walking in groups, staying in well-light areas and being aware of potential hiding places to minimize risks to themselves." This happened on 1st Street. I live a street up. Not that long ago there was a kid that was arrested for creeping around the streets and robbing people's houses. This town is bad for this kinda shit. I'm always walking home from my friends houses late at night too.. I'm probably not gonna be doing that for awhile now.

Take self defence classes. Krav maga would teach you defence against knifes/blunt objects, also close encounters with firearms , also how to disarm said weapons. Also how to hold your back against mulstiple atackers and make certain very powerful moves almost instinct... haha it will also get you into shape with all the drills etc... and if your lucky you may even get to learn some ground moves and spar in boxing gear. Or just get a pepper spray and make sure to point in the right direction if you use it
Due to the current financial troubles there is going to be a lot more of this type of crime. Buy a gun. I sleep better at night knowing that I will be able to defend myself in more ways than one.
Self defense classes would probably do me no good cause i'm 5'3 and weigh about 100 lbs hahaha, my best defense is probably running. i do need a gun or some sort of weapon in my apartment, though. i'm usually here by myself at night because my roommates stay with their boyfriends, and i'm always afraid someone's gonna break in.. and i'd be the only one here
Buy a gun, or if you are afraid to have to kill someone with it go with something painful but non-lethal. You can buy a stun gun, or a tazer, an extendable baton, a bean-bag shotgun, you name it.
