I recently dyed my hair back to it's natural colour, and I was wondering if I were to backcomb my hair into dreads now would it be fine?
dependsa on how dammagede it ids from dying bleaching and chemical treatments if your hairs dammageds id go with a much more gentle method like natural/neglect or twist n rip dammaged hair is motre brittle and breaks easier and backcombing is agressiveand dammaging but if its in fairly good shape youll be fine
After about 15+ years of bleaching and colouring my hair underwent vigorous backcombing and is fine...
haha thanks guys, My hair isn't in the best shape it's got alot of breakage going on and it looks absolutely terrible if I don't comb it. So would the twist and rip method be better than backcombing or would it break just as much hair?
wouldnt break as much hair at all but if its that bad neglect probly would progress quickly but yea it will look lil bad a week or 2 or more but the progress should be visible and would be far more gentle the looking bad if u dont comb it just means it wants to dread like crazy.. try it 2-3 weweks before u decide
Yeah backcombing looks like it does a nasty bit on your hair if they fall out =/ I'm thinking about going natural because my hair knots like crazy just over night, but what would be some tips for seperating them so that they knot nice and somewhat evenly?
yeah my hair hasn't been it's natural colour for 7 years and it was SUPER damaged before I dreaded, and it's locking up super fast, I mostly praise the damage for this because after I bleached it a ton of times to get it blonde, I always woke up with a million knots. you'll be fine
I had my hair dyed back from black to brown * lots of bleaching* and had my hair dreaded about two days later. Seemed fine to me. The excess dye takes a little longer to wash out than it normally would. That's all. edit: mine were T&R if that makes any diff to you?
bleached hair seems to lock super fast... so im sure youll be fine no matter what. dreads consist of lots of damaged or fallen out hair in most cases and are still super healthy. just dont needle felt or root flip (much) and your dreads wont break off.
Maybe try growing your roots out even a teeny bit beforehand. I dyed my hair back to as close as I could get to my natural about four months ago a few weeks before dreading. The colour is still brown, but has blonde patches on some dreads (this looks pretty funny) and a lot of golden brown, so much lighter than my natural. You can see the growth pretty clearly and it is definitely a lot softer and easy to work with than the lengths of my dreads. It also feels stronger, but I have yet to have any breakage and none of them look weak. I would just go with more root for the security of it. Everyone knows that over processed hair can sometimes just break. If you have some strength behind it you should be fine. I bleached 3x in a week, twice with 40 volume and once with 60. It really sucked and definitely messed up my hair, but it's doing fine and looks great.
If your hair is damaged, one thing to think about is the width of your dreads. Might want to stay away from the itty bitty ones.
