Scientists in Portugal today announced the discovery of a Neandertal specimen of very unusual interest. The specimen, found fully articulated and in "unbelievably perfect, almost laggerstatten condition" included some fascinating items alongside it. It seems that the Neandertal had found fossil jawbones and teeth from various species of early man, from Australopithecine to Homo, and had correctly placed them in order. "It seems that even our extinct pre-historic spear-weilding extinct dumb cousins correctly understood what the fossils tell us," said one researcher. "We just never expected to find a fossil of an ape-man studying a fossil ape man." The study is being conducted by the prestigious University of De Liverwurst.
And yesterday they announced that the Australopithecine robustus that the Neanderthal had collected- had himself collected some various brachiopod fossils, and had them in order by geologic period, correctly, from the Cambrian on up! So we have a fossil of a fossil-hunter who had a fossil of a fossil-hunter. Er, well, rather, yesterday we did.
Haha ... very funny. Now you just have to explain how a Neanderthal in Portugal happened to find fossils of a species that was confined to Africa. And Neanderthals were not "ape men". No legitimate researcher would have said such a thing. For that matter, Australopithecus was not an "ape man", either. The word means "southern ape". They were no more "ape men" than chimpanzees are. Back to De Liverwurst for you!
