i had this theory about falling in your sleep...well im never actually asleep when it happens. im relaxing and out of nowhere i feel like i just fell from a standing position, but i didnt actually move at all. anyone ever felt this? anyway my theory was that it was astral projection taking place, but before you could completely leave your body, you become aware or scared and "fall" back in. what do you guys think? am i full of shit? lol :p

I read an account from a Zen practitioner where he woke up one night after he had been meditating intensely for days in a sesshin, and he suddenly felt as if he was falling and then he had a breakthrough and experienced an enlightenment.

for me it always feels like im about to fall down some stairs; its always when im about to fall asleep so i always wake up startled.

i never thought of it as astral projection taking place because i thought that happened as you drifted into REM which is like 3-4 hours after already sleeping...

hmm. i used to think that too, but during REM sleep there is as much brain activity as there is when you are awake. if anything it should happen during stage four, which is basically where you are in a state of deep sleep, or oblivion. but it always happens during the period between wake and sleep. not sure if any scientific facts corroborate with my little theory.

whoops, i forgot about that. i dont know why i was thinking REM was when your brain was quietest...
anyways, for me, it always occurs like as soon as i fell asleep so maybe it occurs, for me anyways, during stage 1, when your brain just starts to quiet down...

idk, id like to know more though lol

...yes I have heard this along time ago...you are just leaving your body and for some reason get pulled back in...

its okay lol a lot of people think that. yeah, so maybe the stages of relaxation preparing for an outside body experience wouldnt necessarily go by the stages of sleep. because i think you definitely have to be somewhat aware. so haha i wasnt sure about the stage 4 being the one youd have to be in. i have a whole book with this kind of stuff in it. let me know what you want to know.

Nice spekulations! I used to fall alot when i was younger. It is an experience i can tell you that. I dreamt of this 2-3 days ago but in this particular experience i didnt feel like i was falling. It felt like somebody was pushing me with a great velocity. I hadnt a clue of why

I don’t know I’ve had my share of dreams in which I’m falling into a deep chasm
only to wake up just prior to impact – seemed like a typical nightmare to me.

Although I always wondered what would happen If I didn’t wakeup prior to impact
and hit the rocks below

Yes, it's most likely the astral experience that you're feeling - we tend to get pulled back into our bodies when our egos feel ignored or compromised, and also when there are changes in our physical environment.....we tend to be hardwired to come back to our bodies when any type of "threat" is perceived

astral projection and other psychic/magickal phenomena occur during the alpha state - the way we feel when daydreaming, or just as we are falling asleep (notice how we tend to "fall" asleep!)

Im really glad to be reading this, i always wondered what, the shake was all about. It happened alot when i was meditating. Also when im about to drift away into dreamworld. I sometimes get into
a deep thinking state and something cuts my concentration and i kinda
forget what i was thinking, is that the ego. Is it then, our egos that pulls the soul back in/disconnects us?
