Spring in Northern Cal

    Oh, how pretty! What are the tall pink & white things? They're very cool - my son says they're very humorous. (he's into the "weird" plants)

    They are actually bright red and yellow, they are red hot pokers (kniphofia) a perrenial that colonizes like calla lillies. We have three different clumps of them around the property but this is always the first to bloom.

    Our hollyhocks are also blooming but I didn't get any good pictures of them.

    it's great how everything is blooming. :D i'm glad it rained again.. we can always use more.

    We can definitely use more. And mother nature has been very kind about it this year no huge downpours or days and days of it.

    so beautiful i wonder if i could get some of kniphofia to grow in michigan :) If not ill just have to move to northern cali ;) always have wanted to move to arcata .. seems like a kewl chill place

    Arcata is indeed a neat place to live. I don't live quite that far west or north. I am still down in the north valley. I live down in cow country. But little by little with more immigrants from southern california and other places it's becoming more open.

    Arcata being part of the arts community associated with Humbolt college is a very open and inspiring part of the world.

    If you can grow iris I would imagine you can grow kniphofia.

    yup we can grow iris so that sounds great ...kniphofia is such an interesting plant :) open minded and inspiring is exactley what im looking for :)
