ummm, i worked in a restaurant as a grill cook for a year almost and I had long dreads. they made me wear a hair net. my dreads were tight and clean, but the manager didn't undersand that hair doesn't fall out if its in dreads, oh well. i even was promoted during that time.

good luck, don't sacrifice your true self for anything, especially a little bit of money. at your age you shouldn't be so concerned with money, IMO.

Hehe your right.. But the thing that the dreads will tighten up and get very short scares me... How long do you think my hair will be if i backcomb it or doing the thing with the needle when it's around 5 - 6 inches long.. And then let it tight up for 2 months.. how long do you think the dreads will be? 4 - 5 inches?

i dont think that its right to give a estimation on the size they will be as tbh nobody knows what they will turn out like.
Everyones dreads are different, some see no shortening, some see loads.
Its just luck that they turn out how you want them

Doesn't mostly everyones dreads turn out okay ? :) I've never really seen very ugly dreads, some better than others, but never some really ugly ones.. Maybe they doesn't excist xD

it's all a matter of opinion whether someone's locks look good or not. that's why locks are such a unique hairstyle.

Hehe thanks for the support :)
I wouldnøt mind being different, actually some of my friends are "free" and hippie like, and they support me =) But being a 8th grader(soon 9th :p) can be difficult sometimes .. :( Oh well, it may be tough for a couple of months, and then i think it will be great :)

I think i won't cut my hair, then i have some time to think about it.. :) One of my friends have dreads and his parents could maybe make them for me? ! :D

it really grinds my gears when people say "make" in reference to locks. you can start locks, you can't make them unless they're fake. sorry. just my two cents.

Okay well, then start them :)
You know what i meant, i didn't want to offend anyone :)
Yes of course "start" them, but from start they're still dreads :) I get your point though

i wouldn't even really call them dreads at first (although i don't use the term dread) they're just knots that are locking.

    Which way would you suggest?
I won't go neglect, heres the option i could use:
    Backcombing
    Croucheting(spelled?)
    Twist n rip

You may come with suggestions if you like :)

Who cares about damage? Your dreading your hair.

T & R gives the best looking results and most people that choose a method other than natural want tidier looking dreads.

And I think the idea of using a comb to make dreadlocks is a complete oxymoron

Okay, T&R. How hard do you think it is to an unfamilair person to learn? I don't think hairdressers know that method.. :)
