I don't know why you think Donnie Darko is only focussed on being odd, because it isn't. It has a solid story which is put together with a lot of quirks and sidelines but that's not only to make it odd but to let the viewer figure things out. I can imagine if you don't like figuring out the sidelines and vague hints it comes over as a lousy movie, but why watch it if you don't like movies that tries a thing like this. It's as much trying to be different just to be different as a movie that is trying to be enjoyable is just made to be enjoyable. You don't like movies that are enjoyable just to be enjoyable neither?
I cant really explain the plot of primer tbh, ots about 2 scientists that invent a time machine but its a bit crap, you have to sit in it for as long as you want to go back. They start off playing the stock market but then they start fucking about with other things and it all gets very confusing. Wikipedia tell sit better i think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primer_(film) It sounds quite reasonable when it's explained to you but in reality the plot is designed to be impenetrable
That's sad, I'm just trying to make clear it isn't focussing on being odd. I hate arguing for nothing.
Well anyway...if anyone sees S. Darko, please tell us all about it And to anyone who finds Donnie Darko boring...that makes me lol, coz I quite like boring films, and D.D. is positively happenin' by comparison Does un-boring have to be action-packed or what? How are you defining boring? E.g. that fucking Transformers shite bored the pants off me and I can't believe I actually sat through it, yet every dull moment of Audition is wonderful in the context of its climax... So..er..yeh
So it's not boring but it just didn't suited your taste I had the same with that Transformer movie, amybird. I couldn't even watch it till the end. But on the other hand, most superhero featuring actionmovies aren't for me.
I just get really pissed of with the constant 2-second cutting in films which would probably have looked awesome if only we could have had the chance to look at all the amazing big-budget effects and appreciate the hard work that went into them, but no, they're flashed infront of our eyes for a moment then whipped away almost instantly. Stupid. Sometimes it's like an entire film is just a trailer of itself.
I agree completely, but I have to admit I could appreciate it in some movies where it fits the atmosphere, style, characters, story etc. Like in Spun, Lock Stock and Snatch.
Spun... its just a ripoff of a ripoff, just a different drug.... soundtrack is good though Snatch... it good jason statham is a great actor... though sometimes I think he is going for the spot Bruce Willis left behind.... Crank... I love this movie..... its true what you say about transformers.... theres no point in using such high budget effects if youre not gonna be able to even see them... it seemed o much like a trailer on another note... I want to kill whoever wrote the dragon ball movie... they made a complete pile of shite out of my childhood i grew up watching that and I cant seem to forgive them making such a lame movie cause they wanted to go halfway between pleasing the fans and the new people.... to the fans its just screwed up bad story changes to the characters are too radical.... and to the new people the story isnt clear enough IE you dont have a clue whats going on
The transformers movie was FAIL. The acting / storyline was horrible. The only thing entertaining about it was how bad the acting was, it almost seemed like a mockery of Transformers. I think they're was one good scene near the end where there weren't any humans and it was just the bots. Other than that.. :ack2:
OMG WTF. My mate convinced me to go see the dragonball movie. We blew like £25 quid on tickets and food then WTF, i thought it was going to be animated. Biggest waste of time and money EVAR !!!!
I'm guessing t will be lame. DD was one of my favs but its been too long and this isn't the same crew that made the original.
Any of you ever see The Fountain? It's directed by the same guy as Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler. It's one of those movies that leaves things up to your own interpretation, and also the movie is just beautiful to see.
Yeh I really like the Fountain, though it makes me sad a bit...(you left out Pi btw). I've not got round to seeing The Wrestler yet - is it as good as his other films then?
I didn't even know the Fountain and Requiem for a dream are by the same the director! But it makes sense. Actually I thought The fountain didn't leave a lot to my own imagination, but I'm not sure anymore. It looked beautiful though. Anyone saw Johnny was? It has a similar typical London vibe like Snatch and Lock stock etc. It's with Vinnie Jones who I personally dig as much as Jason Statham.
Really don't want to see S. Darko. Donnie Darko is by far my favourite film, to the point where I unashamedly recite every line. I don't think it needed a sequel and I read somewhere that S. Darko was going to feature Frank? I don't understand... Sigh. And didn't she... you know, die?
