    This is ridiculous.

Today (5-5-09) in Canandaigua, NY (a town approximately 20 miles southeast of Rochester), a school was placed under lockdown after a student committed suicide in the school's bathroom. This resulted in students having their cell phones taken so they could not reach their parents, and having their cars impounded by the police, supposedly in the name of the students' "safety and security," even though the authorities admit there was no danger to the students. Students and their lockers were also individually searched for weapons.

I can understand evacuating to make sure he hadn't set any bombs to take everyone else out, but to confiscate everyone's cars and phones? That's just ridiculous.

maybe they should just sign all the kids up for the military so that they will have a job when they get out of high school.

thats an obscene abuse of power.

im sorry, but when i was in high school that shit would not fly with me. they would have to hold a goddamn knife to my throat to get my cell and keys im tellin ya

this reminds me of when that woman was killed in disneyland and everyone was made to sign waivers saying they didnt see shit and they had all the evidence cleaned up before the cops got there... a very sad story.

Better safe than sorry. You think its over the top? Fucking kids are crazy these days I would want them to take every caution if it was my kids school. A kid is dead and he offed himself in the bathroom of the school. Sick

impounding random cars that had absolutely nothing to do with the suicide is not a precaution.

I read a news clip a few years back about a high school student in the U.S. who got into all sorts of trouble because he left a butter knife in the bed of his pickup truck after a weekend camping outing. Someone saw the knife and reported it.

How do you figure that????? in columbine they put bombs in their cars (they just didnt go off) Cell phones can trigger a bomb, and lockers can conceal bombs. It was all done as a precaution! So you are all upset with the cops in this case and not the wack job kid? I just dont get you guys. Its a small town nothing like this probably ever happened there before. If anything the cops have done an amazing job taking care of the situation. Great job all around. if your pissed off cause your cell phones were taken away or lockers searched or cars towed. tough shit. If it was 1982 and kids didnt do the crazy things they do now the cops would not have handled it this way.

so one time 15 years ago someone put a bomb in their car in a completely different scenario, so now every time anything happens at a school ever, cars should be impounded? yes, the kid that offed himself was a worthless fuck who probably deserved to not be alive, but that doesn't absolve the cops from any wrongdoing.

the unibomber sent bombs in the mail. so if my woodsman uncle committed suicide would we confiscate all mail in the united states?

arguing with you is pointless; your point is obviously that kids today are pieces of shit compared to when you were young, and any logical argument made will just be shot down with "kids today do stupid things that they didn't do in the past."

seems a bit odd. I wouldn't stop them from doing it but I'd raise a few questions afterwards. a gross invasion of privacy justified by an imminent threat ... perhaps ... but over a suicide? mm. not so much.

Ugh, it's not really that ridiculous.

Cell phones should be banned from schools. People don't need cellphones anyway. It's just false security. We survived millions of years without them.

But enough of anachronistic girl rants. There was a Code Red (they have certain codes for school emergencies) and this is all part of protocol. Kids have to duck under their desks, teachers block doorways, all that stuff to make sure that another shooter or another bomb threat is handled.

Cellphones can be used to set off bombs. Cars are perfect storage places for a large stash of weapons.

I mean, the kid fuckin' killed himself inside the school. If I were the principal, I'd put everyone on lockdown out of respect for the truth.

LOL calm down. Drama Queen! No, not everytime something happens at school this should be done, but yes when a kid offs himself with a gun in the bathroom I dont feel it is out of line for the cops to do what they did. The cops did no "wrongdoing" in this case. They handled it well.

I know nothing about woodsman or your uncle or the unibomber LOL (talk about pointless arguments) so i dont know what the fuck your talking about there.

And last but not least no, I dont think "kids today are pieces of shit" far from it.

Still waiting for that logical argument you talk about. LOL

As far as your kids today do stupid things they didnt in the past.
Well i happen to agree with that one. its just a fact.

They banned cellphones and iPods from the classrooms here in the Catholic School Boards in Ontario. I think they need to do this everywhere. They're so annoying and all kids do is text each other during class.
