You shouldn't let small mundane things people do and say get to you or else your spend a life full of disappointment. You should break this while your young because as you get older it only gets harder.

In my house shit=stuff so I never took it as a negative connotation when vigilante used it. I was confused as to where all apparent aggression was seen. meh

Anyway, I have many random beads in my hair. They have absolutely no meaning other than trying to help my dreads out. I have tons of loopies at the bottom of my hair and they are really flat, etc, so the beads right now are strictly functional. Also, I add in wool wraps to help suck in the loose hair, but again, this is functional.

I think once my dreads mature a bit more I will be on more of a quest to find some really neat things to add.... and have ordered a darn cool lizard from smelly that I think will look neat.. just need to get the money to her now. =)

I don't think he's hot. There's something about him I don't like. As for Johnny Depp, I could take him or leave him.

I put some rainbow wraps in my hair because I like rainbows.....rainbow=my fav color. I like playing with colors. i occasionally wear beads and stuff...my fav one is a butterfly bead....I wear that one when Im feeling magical. Im not wearing it today. Boo. I have a bead that my friend gave me thats been passed down from dready to dready for 5 years now. It started with her cousin...who then gave it to her friend when she cut her dreads...who then gave it to my friend....who then gave it to me when she cut hers....I dont wear it all the time but thats the only bead that has meaning behind it....all the rest are just reflections of my mood and or how much time I had in the morning when getting ready.

how do you get your beads to stay on your dreads? I keep having the problem of either not being able to push the beads all the way up the dread or the bead being to big and falling off.

you have to find beads that fit....it can be difficult in the begining...but as your dreads mature they'll fill out and get loopy and stuff....thats the stage when its easiest to decorate them with beads.

try putting a bead on and wrapping abit of thread underneath it to thicken part of your dread up and then it wont slip off.

I have several medium sized wooden beads in my hair, and every one ive come accross has only complemented me about them. Also because i like the look and it adds something for people to talk about it the dreads, if dreads arent even talked about enough as it is lol :)

I know this is an old thread but I have to say, it realli got me thinking and I just took out all my 'shit' from my hair except for one small yellow bead and a small blue wrap as my friend vixi put them in when she did my hair. I just felt cloisterphobic,,,well something like that without it being in anyway dramatic and I am obsessed with feeling free and I'm totally waffling. I just like the idea of dreads being dreads like Pat (I think it was) said,,I had this green bead in one of my front locks that realli began to piss me off as it grew out. It was just kindof hanging there. Anywayyyy, I guess I want the focus to be on my face or something rather than that green bead billowing by my cheek. So sorry vig that I took you up the wrong way! Blahhhhfaldfhal

Man that is bitchy!! Who cares what one does with their own hair it is not on your head. If you don't like how it looks don't look. I happen to think beads, wraps and the such are a nice touch to ones personality.

Luxie, I think you might find you'll go through phases. I know I have. I took out all my wraps except one of the long ones, and thats because I use it to wrap around my hair to keep it out of my face. I've been known to have loads of crap, then just a few fabric beads.

My beads are so significant to me. I love when people ask about certain beads, and I'm like "yeah, I got that in flagstaff" Travel beads, they all have their own stories.

yah, I think when I go away this summer I'll get vixi to put some in for me, she works in a bead shop. And I think it looks better to have someone else put them in for you so they are kind of even. My dreads are so loopy atm it just looks weird wrapped up like a nobbly leg
