People coming to this forum new to dreads should be able to ask whatever questions they have and not be mocked or made fun of. That's kind of the point of this forum, right? To "discuss or ask questions on all your dready needs"? not to get mocked just my opinion. peace
some of the shit that goes through this forum is far worse +mocking is hilarious Don't hate the player, hate the game
We were all newbies once and ppl forget what its like to join a forum and not know anyone. I think its unfair to take the piss out of someones post when they are new. If you have nothing interesting or helpful to say to them why bother posting in their thread? Ignore it and make a thread of your own and fill that with bullshit instead. Only reasons I can think ppl do it are bordom, attention seeking or they have a shit sense of humour
I don't see a lot of n00b bashing but I do think it's OK to direct a newbie to the info desk when they ask the same boring questions over and over. It's just kind of ignorant to come on a forum and first thing you do is post a thread about 'should I gets my dredz did in a salon', or 'what type of wax shud I use'?? The information is right under their noses they just have to sniff about a bit. I don't wanna regurgitate the same old shit again and again,,,
pointing them in the right direction is a good start(stickys) But at the end of the day this is a dreadlock forum and obviously there are only so many things you can say about dreads, course its going to get boring but thats why there are other forums for us to post on about other stuff
i agree with this thread. one person in particular always annoys me a bit when they say stuff like "don't forget to wax" just b/c they're bored or want attention. remember, you used to be a newb too!
See, i understand that you should be nice to noobs, but its all the noob hazing that weeds out the tough from the weak. If you can manage to get to 1000 posts through all of the bashing and general hilarious cruelty, then you deserve to post on these forums...
point proven sarcasm is hard to pick up on the internet, and it comes across as mocking or mean fashionnugget's thread about dreads + pool's is an example...there's two helpful answers among all the replies...for a person new to the forum it's pretty unwelcoming and would make me not want to come back. I like humor and I agree that some posts are silly, I known I've asked (to along-term dreadies) stupid or silly questions, but if people don't ask, then they won't find out the answer, and then they'll end up doing something to their head that they shouldn't like waxing (gasp!)
if you can't handle a little e-criticism, how are you going to handle the real world when you have dreads and people are mocking you from across the street and telling you to go wash your hair hippy?
hmm I didn't make the rules, of course, but whoever wrote the forum description (at the top of the page) clearly wanted this place to be welcoming to everyone
Looks like it actually is in the rules not to make fun of people. I'm not sure where you guys got the idea that this forum exists to test people's will and desire to get dreads, but in reality, the reason it exists is to help inform people about dreads and to guide them on the correct path to getting them. Not to try to weed out those you personally don't feel should get them. It's their own choice what they want to do with their hair, and it's not your place to tell them they can't or to mock them so much that they give up.
This forum exists for the purpose of helping those noobs. I'm not sure what purpose you think it has if you have no interest in helping though. The only thing you seem to want to do is to discourage anyone who comes here looking to get dreads through a combination of mocking, sarcasm, and bad advice.
