awwrighty folks... so i'm about 2 and a half weeks into the neglect method, though i did to a bit of cheating here and there. my hair is very fine and very straight (in the first picture you see of my hair pre-dread i'd merely washed with my usual baking soda rinse and let it air dry. no brushing involved.. my hair is really naturally that straight and oh so silky... which is not very conducive to the dreading process) anywho. here's the pics. you can see the one little dread i backcombed and palmrolled just for fun about 3 days later nothing was happening. i was washing my hair with my usual BS rinse and not brushing.. and... my hair wasn't even getting stringy. so i started towel drying my hair as roughly as i could stand it to try to get the ball rolling. it finally started getting 'stringy', which was better than the buncha nothin' i was getting before.
after that i started doing random sectioning and backcombing because i'm impatient like that... i had to cutmy original post in half to fit my pics for some reason... this was yesterday afternoon. annnd so now i will be doing monthly shots. sorry if the pics are huge, i just resized them. they should be smaller soon.
yea it takes a bit longer than a few days to get locks. bummer you were too impatient and backcombed. looks like you live in a beautiful place:cheers2:
i live on a mountain in NoVA. i look out my windows and see (now) green covered trees in every direction. I can't wait for the mountain laurel to start blooming... ahhhh my favorite actually, looking out over my back deck now i see only treetops (we live on the side of a mountain, our back yard drops steeply down to the next row of houses lower on the mountain, so i see blue sky and trees out my back windows every day. is nice and yes, i'm kind of mad with being so impatient with my hair but... it's one of my vices. i'm such an impulsive person. i really need to work on it... lol
I think your hair is looking great, especially considering how shiny and smooth you started off with. My hair was the same predread.... never used conditioner or brushed it, but it would fall straight down everyday. I couldn't even get bed head!! And btw, ignore the haters. I'm not sure if you have been a lurker here or not, but some ppl didn't learn their manners from their mommies I guess and create a bit of a negative vibe. meh... Oh and You'ze cutes!!!!!
lol that's one of the reasons why im goin neglect...to force myself to be patient... and hawtmamah, well, dang you're one hawtmamah! lookin good so far, just keep ignoring your hair the best you can and may you be blessed with all the patience in the world!
Daisy, Uhvo and Hesti- thank you very much. Hes- i am partially doing this to teach myself patience. obviously i failed... LOL... but i am really trying hard to neglect as much as possible from now on.
believe me, you'll learn patience even if you don't go neglect. ignore the neglect elitists on here. i love the color!
Vigilante- thank you! i use henna to dye my hair i don't know how i'm going to manage that once the dreads are in though. Henna is a very messy process. lol. Mandy- thank you
well, technically, i only backcombed that first dread in the first pic and then one other time (it was about a week ago) I haven't touched my hair except to wash and towel dry it since. My boyfriend had locks for 6 years and got his using the neglect method over a period of a year and a half. He's been helping me stick to the "LEAVE IT ALONE!!!" method, he really wants me to just let my hair do what it will naturally. So i have a cheerleader on my side IRL for that at least I do..... understand... why people can be so passionate about stuff like this though. No harm no foul. :cheers2:If i could have a beer right now (and ohhh how i have been craving beer lately!!!! can someone have an IPA for me?? i don't care what brand, just make it a good, bitter IPA) i'd have one with you. shoot, i'd have a beer with all of you. We brew our own and the next batch is almost ready to keg! lol. i digress. Just tryin' to keep the peace.
Ill have one of those beers thanks btw you and your dreadies are beautiful and we wish you nothing but the best of luck on your journey... keep us updated on your dreadie progress.. im going the natural route as well and we can be inspiration for each other
