Yup. Piping at funerals seems to be the only tradition that made it across the atlantic.. fuck, the Scots pipe at damn near everything Burns night is awesomely fun, bagpipes & whiskey & kilts & haggis (veggie haggis for me hehe)
Veggie haggis is fucking delicious. Regular haggis though.. ugh. Liver, kidneys, lungs, and entrails cooked in a stomach lining? No thanks.
When I was first told what was in haggis, I simply could not accept that it came from anywhere on an animal but the butt. It's like a dirty diaper cocktail
I play Medieval Germn Bagpipes myself; Haven't been playing them too much as I am waiting on new reeds (Cause them to be a little squeaky) Nothing says DUDEWTF like a bagpiper in the weirdest places (MickeyD's, Grocery Stores, Casinos...) I have diddle dee my wee names!
Bagpipes originated in Sumeria, are biblical in age, and Scotland was one of the last countries to develop it. Bagpipes are as Scottish as Hello Kitty is Irish. I prefer the German Variety (Dudelsack)
Actually I saw Hello Kitty in the pub today, was on the way to a céilí to play the fiddle...speaking of whih theres some fiddle festival on tomorrow in the back ass of nowhere...should be plenty of poteen and old drunkards dancing and shouting though...might be worth going too. I dont think they have any of it recorded...was a random incident where they just started making it on the spot coming through huge speakers at a rave a few months ago. Sounded insane...thinking back though I have no idea how there were drums...I dunno, I was pretty fucked then haha. Might have just been a minimalist dnb set that they were just playing along too
http://www.imeem.com/people/IOUBVg/music/BET2J5u6/the-boondock-saints-soundtrack-pipes/ we had a guy play some for my grandfather's funeral... but the link is happy pipes.
haha. my uncle has a kilt. He's hilarious, but he's really big so I don't think anyone would make fun of him for wearing his man dress lol.
