It seems to me that, whether you agree with Rastas or not, Bob Marley was more than the sum of his characteristics. Yes, he was Ras Tafarian, yes he smoked weed, and yes, Rita has marketed his likeness. But dig deeper. Bob was the son of a white man and a black woman, and, as such, tried to balance his beliefs with his reality. That is why he expanded the meaning of Rasta to be more inclusive. He has become the symbol of freedom all across the world, because of his music and Rita's work marketing his likeness. Her 'Zion Rootswear' is made in Jamaica, and represents nearly 50% of Jamaica's GDP. When he was alive, he fed nearly 2000 people on the island a day, today, that number is nearly 10,000. Believe what you will, but know of what you speak.
:cheers2: np you are so hypocritical! in a picture you posted a while back you had pictures of Bob Marley around your roon and a freakin' ethiopian coloured scarf!
the one shirt that i have from rootswear was a christmas gift. i gave it to my roommate, but i just looked at it and it was made in indonesia. the distribution company is probably based out of jamaica maybe? ill bet its easy to sell them there to tourists... im only relplying to this because you mentioned it in another thread... that scarf actuallly came from ethiopia. made by an ethiopian woman. who was paid a *more than* fair wage. and i haven't ever worn the thing, i think it's ugly. i dont like to wear the colors not only because it's just not my thing, im not going to represent myself as something im not...and the poster? i like to drink coffee with bob in the mornin:cheers2:<---coffee and then wear a hat like this :hat: <---hat
and then becky was all like omg and then i was like BITCH OMFG then i slapped that ho and then she made me a sandwich
obidayah obidayah jah jah sent us here to catch vampire, we have the chalice to light up jah fire, i an i gon catch vampire, i an i a gon set them on fire
oki cat in hat why do you give a crud what other people wanna put on their bodies? i mean as a dread head have you never had people come up to you (lame ass people) and asked you if your rasta because your hair? how many people do you see wearing crosses and rosary beads round their necks? The only people I know who would get offended by that have varicose veins.
My brother got me a bob marley tapestry for X-mas. I think he got it for me because since I have dreadlocks and smoke pot I must idolize Bob Marley I just looked at the packaging, the tapestry was made in China. Also I think NP loves bashin' wannabe rastas because he himself used to call himself a rasta. NP is a smart guy and I'm sure after he started digging into the faith a bit more and learning a lot about it he became embarrassed and ashamed that he himself was a poser. (that would explain why he knows so much about rastafarianism (yeah I said it) To make him feel better, he now loves to mock people who call themselves rasta by making a show of how much more he knows about the religion's history and teachings and pointing out how stupid all the posers are. That's just a hypothesis though.
Wow this is a tuff subject. My family came here from Jamaica, and Rastas aren't seen in the best light down there because of their beliefs and image don't mesh at all with the colonial way of life. But the hypocrisy of that is that people will wear red, gold, and green and have Bob's face everywhere because he brought so much good for the country. But they say that I look like a crackhead or a homeless person because I chose not to let a crocktitian give me nastylocks with wax and whatnot. I know people who will walk around with a full head of it not washing because they think it's the Rasta way to walk around looking dirty. WRONG! Or they'll smoke poisoned blunts wrapped with tobacco paper - YUCK - thinking they're closer to the Universe. Even Bob said liquor is encouraged to make people stupid. So if you see a faker in a Tuff Gong shirt drinking a beer...school their ass! (Because you will not catch me a bar ever again!)
