Hello guys I have a friend who has (natural/neglect) dreads for quite a few years but they are tottally uneven with large chunks on the bottom and skinny at the root... and he has had two break off!!! is this normal or natural and would this be avoided by using different methods?? like backcombing etc? btw his dreads are beautiful and i am afraid for him.

i havent heard about anyone experiencing that...the only breakage i've heard from nattie dreads is SE finding chunks of his dreads around his house...but that's cause he rolls over them in his wheelchair...

Mine are around 4 years. Natural/Neglected

LOL at palmrolling and any form of maintenance. If you are doing "upkeeping" you aren't growing natural dreads. Simple as that

My hair is 100% untouched except for some ripping I had to do to prevent pain and scalp trauma

i think breakage is common especially for people with naturally dry scalp/hair like african type hair. it also depends on how thin your locks are. thick= less breakage i would assume.

The method makes no difference, older dreads tend to shed bits here and there. This is why it's important to take good care and be gentle with them if you want them to grow long... dreads are strong, but not invincible. Further, I'd guess your friend started with longer hair, considering the clumps at the bottom. Probably older, shrunk up ends. *For the best they fall off in my opinion. Probably old, nasty hair.

just such variety in the way everyones natural dreads grow his very in thickness alot... they dont look very uniform..and im sure they couldnt pull trucks like pats mighty locks ;) ( and yes they did break in thinner spots..)

I had dreads for like a whole week once, which using the logic that got George w Bush into office makes me an expert. any way what I did was I would palm roll anytime I had two hands free, and to tell you the truth I liked the way they came out.
