today i thought since dea raids are from a federal point, and state law doesn't override federal law, so basically, for these raids to stop we'd have to legalize marijuana federally. i mean, they can't "force" him, 'cause maybe he truly doesn't give two shits if senior citizens don't get medication to stop them from going blind. let's just hope he gives two shits . i still don't agree with the dea raids, but i think it could help obama reconsider the law.
What i posted from another thread similar to this one: It's not that President Obama is a tool, in fact i very much disagree. How would it look for Obama, the nations first African American, who by the way has experimented with marijuana, to legalize it? It would look terrible of course. Many people already judge him because he is African American, it would just reinforce their idea that Black people are stereotypical pot smokers. Oh, and Obama couldnt just say "hey everyone, weeds legal now!" he would have to present the idea to congress who would then vote on it. And yes, state law can preside over federal law in many cases. Weed is illegal, but it has been made legal in California under certain terms. So there are many factors in why Obama chooses not to legalize weed. Though i do think it should be legal. Not just for all you stoners who don't want to get arrested, but so mexico can stop making so much money off us, so we don't support all the murderous drug lords, so the jails are not full of regular people who got caught with an ounce, and so that the government can make more money during this recession. If marijuana is made legal in the future its going to get the shit taxed out of it. There will also be many regulations, such as driving penalties and where you do it with whom. It will most likely not be made legal to minors. But the scientific evidence is it is less addictive than alcohol, and both less addictive and less harmful than cigarettes. This is long i know, sorry. But if you care about the legalization of pot you would have found this informative.
matt: i think that has a lot to do with it, but i don't even think now he wants to, because he see's these other ways to fix the economy without, so he's going that route. sidenote: has he even mentioned anything on medicinal marijuana policy? besides ending dea raids, that haven't stopped.
three weeks ago he made it illegal for the DEA to bust medical marijuana clinics they cant use federal money anymore to bust them so he is making a step in the right direction i understand what you mean when you say how would it look if he was the first black president to legalize weed but i mean how would it look if he did he would have a bigger vote for reelection and chances are approval ratings would sky rocket, but as i said in a similar post that he alone cannot decriminalize weed he has to have congress and the states backing him they have to agree our government is a system of checks and balances and there is no way one man can make a law and but it in order
I'm glad somebody said it. Obama doesn't have the power to legalize marijuana. What LittleFlowerChild said.
However, this might be a good time to write to your Senators and Representative. Barney Frank, chairman of the Banking Committee, has already submitted a bill to eliminate all Federal penalties for the possession of 3.5 ounces or less. It would be awesome if this passed.
I just got busted in KS with a 1/2 ounce and my chillum.... $1000 bond.... $2500 fine.... for a 20 year old who works 16 hours a day and can still hardly afford all my bills... this isn't freedom. Things need to change and it isn't the leaders of our country that need to change it, it's us, the citizens. It is unconstitutional, mary jane is my wife and my religion and I have the freedom of choice.... should I start a courthouse shit storm? Do you think I could pull donations out of the pot smoking communities to pay a lawyer to take this to the highest court I can? The court system is the only real way to change the law....
No, it isn't the only way. Here in Massachusetts, the citizens put a referendum on the ballot last November to decriminalize possession of one ounce or less. It passed! Get this -- 65% of the voters approved! Such an overwhelming approval that the establishment will not even try to reverse it. Citizens have the power. They really do in our democracy. It's the overwhelming influence of money on our system that distorts everything. You can also move to a more sensible state. Kansas is one of most conservative.
as was already mentioned by some posters above, he doesn't have the authority to legalize it himself, but he has the authority to control the funding required to enforce the law. with no funding, they can't do a whole lot. it's a small, but important step. the period button is located to the right of the comma (,) and left of the slash (/). use it sometimes.
I don't think he has as much control as you think. He can control some minor aspects of enforcement, like whether to bust medical-marijuana clinics, but he can't do anything really radical, because as the head of the Executive Branch, he has sworn to uphold the laws of the land.
Marijuana just gets you high.. If it was good for Pain I wouldnt feel shit ever.. Marijuana good for this and that, 1/2 of that is BS, Spread by people that want to smoke marijuana.. If I know it .. They know it.. Thats why they couldnt give a shit... Sorry feel like a reality check was needed.. If you want weed then you got to be a pissed off motherfucker and riot,. Typically something that a DRUNK would do if they took booze off the market which Im all for.. How can something that makes a person deathly sick and vomiting, cause 1000's of car accidents a year be just fine in society ... Alcohol leads to incest in the Bible.. the story of Lot impregnating his daughters while drunk (Genesis 19:30-36) where the fuck in the bible does it say noah smoked some weed..and fucked a sheep or a zebra on the ark? :toetap05: you just got robbed by the biggest drug dealers in your state..
