Hey people I allways wanted dreadlocks. Not because i want to be rasta (which is a common misconception when a white guy gets dreads) but because i believe there to a definite link between consciousness and the length of ones hair. I allways wanted them but never had the time to maintain them....but after i got out of high school the need and want arose again, and well, here we are Im white but my father is half black so i have about 1/4 african american in me.... ...The result is a white boy with a nappy-ass head I Simply refuse to put wax in my hair. I have only herd terrible stories. But these loose hair are driving me F-kin nuts. They will eventually get better and lock in place right?? Or are they allways going to be all broken on the sides like that?? -Thanks any thoughts or comments would be more than appreciated
i like ur coils! make sure to keep twisting em or they will come undone lol and the loose hairs will eentually get sucked in but cuz of the texture or ur hair i doubt they will be noticable once they get longer
I can't really tell about your hair type as it's twisted now. My advice would be ot just let it grow. You still need significant length yet and haven't the first inclination of what loose really is. I am coming up on a year and half and have way more loose hair than you complain about. It's how locks are formed...they suck up that hair or they become new dreads entirely. If loose hair bothers you then dreadlocks may not be your thing. Just forget about them and they will get there. Patience and dreads aren't achieved over night. Edit..Repsonding to the post above me. I wouldn't retwist at all. Dreadlocks aren't twists..they are tangled hair. Now that you have them sectioned the will dread on their own and unravel a bit but I assure you they will lock up just fine and fast no matter the hair type. Just don't expect results over night or even in a month. Be prepaired for 6 months to 2 years simply because your hair is so short.
The loose hairs are normal and will get sucked into the "dreads" as time goes on. Is your hair normally the texture of african american hair? I see they are twisted? You are too cute
Wow thanks for all the quick responses guys!!! Domikatetrix- Thanks...and im allways twisting/semi palmrolling them when ever i have a free hand Shadygrov- the loose hairs arent overly bothersome. i think i just wanted reassurance that they would eventually get better. And are you saying that you advise against twisting them...not an enitre "re twist" but you know just playing with them to strengthen the roots ect..
Yea its allways been this texture....i used to wear it in a big afro a couple years back....people used to ask me if i did something special to my hair to get it like that haha and thanks...The pics of you and your hair are on your profile are gorgeous Ive tried taking the bands off but im at 2 1/2 months and everytime i do they start to entwine with each other.....I havent experienced any hair loss with the bands, they are doing a real good job keeping them seperate and helping them form into the size i want them too.... would you say that i am doing a head a disservice by leaving the bands on?? again THANKS TO ALL OF YOU
yea your right about hair eating the bands..... and these are rubber bands so i dont think they will melt....i used elastic ones before and that was different story those things are a pain to get out of your hair... But im allways twisting then back and forth so i usually take the band off each dread. and when i do and replace it with a new one when im done...
Bands are stupid and contribute nothing to the dreading process Your hair type looks like it will dread well so don't bother with the bands
i don't agree with shady grove on this. you can twist your locks if you want, especially if you want perfect coils. i would say once a week, then once a month once they start to mat. just don't over do it. you're lucky to have that hair texture.
when i do ethnic hair i almost always dread there hair by twisting coils and they will come undone if u dont keep twisting em depending how short they are but i had some ppl who stopped twisting and they have some funny looking split dreads
Last night I search for that post where you said something like, twit, clip... and I don't remember the rest. I could not find it anywhere, so just waited for you to appear today and reply to this thread.
lucky SOB... there's really no need to be twisting...im a white boy with white boy hair and im tryin to go natural myself...if you want your dreads to be a uniform size and whatnot, then yes, keep twisting...i want my dreads to be the way they want to be, so aside from occasional ripping (to separate congo's that cause pain) i will be letting it do what it wants, instead of what i want... i would definitely take the bands out though...it's much better to have to spend a few extra minutes a day making sure they dont congo where you dont want them to, rather than to lose x amount of time because you had to cut a section of your dreads off because it ate a band and got jacked up, and now ya gotta start over...know what i mean?
Well, i have allways been interested in the spiritual aspect of the human mind under the influence of entheogens. Shamans have been practicing the use of plants to advance there consciousness for thousands of years. Shamanism is actually the oldest "religion" known on the planet . Shamans....and other people around the world who explore consciousness all state, that longer hair enables one to explore ones mind more efficiently than one with shorter hair.....The hair acts like a storage of information acumulating personal experiences which in turn can be used as a sort of "timeline" when one enters an altered state of consciousness. Which ultimately helps the individual gain a better understanding of him/herself, because they can move through this time line of personal experience to achieve a greater understanding of how, and why they fit into the universe in which we all live. There are also other properties that i havent experienced myself so i wont speak about....But yea "grow your hair untill peace comes out" -John Lenon?.....I love that quote.....and thats pretty much the big picture here EDIT**** I remember reading that quote above on some site, but now that i go to look for it i cant find it....So im not 100% sure if thats what lenon said but the message still applies
Haha yea thanks....i just wish i started them when i had my HUGE fro a few years back....these were started with a mini fro...like 2 inches of hair
