ok....wow if you say once a week then i guess i really have been overdoing it. But its sort of become like second nature lol whenever i have a free hand im allways playing with them . but i guess ill tone it down a bit and let the nappy roots rock
yea man i do NOT want to have to dread up everything again!! Tomorrow im going to wash em and let em rock without the bands for a week and see what happens.
phat, i would say do whatever feel right to you. if one is falling apart, don't wait a week to twist it. just twist it then. how are the oil levels in your hair? how often do you wash and have you washed since you first twisted? i'd say wash, oil (if you feel you need oil), twist, clip them in placeand dry immediately with a blowdryer. this will help the hair shaft keep the twisted shape. but, like i said before. this is only if you wanta more controlled look.
Yea i wash em every 2-3 days....i hear conflicting information tho.....Some people say that your hair needs the natural oils to lock up faster but then some say clean hair lcoks up faster and the oils will just keep them from locking...So ive tried to stay in between by washing them every couple days or so.....but When i first twisted them up i didnt wash my hair for two weeks! lol and yes im going for a more controlled look, because from what i read about my hair type it would be better for the overall longevity of my hair.... i have nothing against big giant phatties....i just feel its not the right style for me
i guess you just have to figure out you oil levels. do you get greasy after 3 days? i would have to agree with the idea that clean hair locks faster. but, with your hair type, you should make sure it's getting the moisture it needs. i'd say a weekly slathering of aloe or coconut oil (use springly) would help with any dryness.
yea! LOL I usually throw on a plain old wool cap before i head out to do whatever......But i do were them out like that sometimes.....people laugh.....but F-em.... I swear being a white guy with dreads in NYC is sort of like wearing a big sing that says "Hate me!" and under that in parenthesis (dont hesitate to judge) LOL but its good practice in learning not to care what other people think, which I think, is a great virtue
word word, i been down that road when i was staying in brooklyn last summer. there are haters anywhere and i don't let them test me about my dreads or lifestyle. these are just like playground bullies, they are just trying to get a rise out of us for attention and insecurities of their own. and if their ignorant comments are racially charged then they are just so much more foolish to the way of the modern world and especially NYC as a melting pot of all cultures and races.
