My original hair color was brown/blond. About a year ago I dyed them black. I didn't know it would be so much trouble later. My roots have been showing for a bit, and I hate touching them up with black every few months. Now, I don't want to ruin my hair, and I've been getting scared from people saying its going to be hard to do so. So, can somebody please help me with the best, and safe way to get this black out of my hair, and to my original color? Or even just a light brown. I just need to get to a light brown and that would be just dandy. I bought some product called Color Oops, but am holding off on using it until I know its safe.
well, for starters... even with non-dreaded hair black is almost (literally) impossible to get out of your hair. ESPECIALLY if you are blonde. The most the color oops will do, if you can even get it to completely saturate your locs, will get it to a harsh, brassy dark red-brown color. Which, you know... you may like. but it will NOT make your hair blonde again, just simply lighten/strip the pigments used in the black..permanent... dye you used to dye your hair. good luck. i know it's frustrating. I had black hair once too and it's a bitch to grow out!
Dying my hair black was a total mistake. Many many boxes of bleach only gave me a shitty orange and I had to wait for it to grow out. "Luckily" I was still dying my hair pink at the time, which meant I just had to put up with it coming out red for ages. If you just did something about the top layer of hair to disguise the colour as it grows out, and leave the less visible part alone to reduce damage, that might be a good plan. For the top layer, maybe put lowlights in your new hair growth, like maybe dye alternate dreads a slightly darker brown to lessen the transition from black... hmm that sounds kinda shit too. Maybe disguise with creative hair wraps and beads and stuff? There's not gonna be a quick solution I don't think. Other than the clippers obviously...eek. Sorry if I mostly just typed useless crap
lol Amy^^ I think you should just grow it out and deal with looking black/blonde. Unless you go to a hairdressers and ask them for advice and if they could dye it/strip some of the black?
good freakin' luck, lol. i got black out of my hair ONCE by using a haircolor remover (wal-mart sells it i believe for under 10 bucks). it does NOT put it back to a pretty color, so you definitely will want to plan to dye it again right after, especially since it doesn't evenly remove the color. it looks very splotchy usually. but with dreads.... that's just a really really risky thing, i think, because if you don't get all the color remover out, it will most likely really really weaken your dreads. also, depending on the tightness of the dreads, other parts of hair may work their way out, and you could end up with very spotty strange looking color. black hair dye looks so freaking fantastic, but boy is it a bitch, lol! good luck, and if you do strip the color out, make sure you condition really well afterwards. your dreads will need it!
tis gonnabe hard removing so my advice is dont, just live with the twotone its the easiest route... and a little less stress too
Oh dear. This is why I dyed my hair back to brown from black before I dreaded my hair. I would be very careful with whatever you do, and its probably going to take awhile before you get the colour you want. I don't know much about stripping your hair, but my advice is if you use those harsh chemicals, even tho it will most likely be uneven and not the colour you want, Let your hair rest a couple weeks before you go at it again. Just to be extra safe maybe take a dread from underneath and use that as a test dread before you do this to your whole head, just to get an idea of what will happen. GL
Everyone, thank you so much for the replies. Its been so hard trying to find advice anywhere, and this has been pretty helpful. I'm just going to touch up the top of my hair in a darkish brown, and slowly work my way back to whatever the best match i can get it to. Yeah, I'm in no rush to use the color remover at the moment.
sounds like a wise decision. using a very dark brown will definitely help your hair grow out more seamlessly, lol. and just think, someday it'll look hella cool to have black tips on your dreads, haha! when i was trying to change my hair from black, i didn't realize that nothing would color over black. so i got this bright shade of red, we're talking ronald mcdonald red. and it had been a while since i had dyed last, so there was like, almost 2 inches of hair that wasn't black. so i had this skunk stripe of bright red roots down my part, lol!!! looked like someone had split my skull open with an ax, haha. so yeah. don't try that kiddies. doesn't work so well
hah yeah exactly, i didn't really think it would be hard at all either. but yeah, i'll let you guys know if it goes well?! haha
