hey u guys, im in year 12 atm and i need to do an Indvidual Research Project (IRP) for my community and family studies course on a topic of my choice. its a big one and we are given 7 months to do it so i need to choose a topic i feel pasionatly about, so i have decided i am going to do it about hippies and their way of life. this is where i would like your help. i need a question or statment to propose and do my IRP on, so here are the ideas i have come up with, but if you can help me with any others, or give your opinion on the best one i should choose i would really appreciate it. - a true hippie vs steriotype of a hippie - what happened to the flower children from the summer of love (i think thats what its called, im going from the top of my head) - the new generation of hippies (something about their way of life, what they can acheive?) - what makes a hippie if i come up with any others ill also add them. thankyou soo much!! i have now developed it "hippies, their lifestyle and how it has changed as they aged" i also have a questionnaire on the second page, help and entries would be appreciated. thankyou
"the new generation of hippies" would tell people that there still are still much hippies around. "What makes a hippie" would be cool
ahh yes, thats a good idea, what makes a hippie would be intersting, i could do heaps with that, thankyou if anyone else has ideas please keep them coming
Personally I'd steer well clear of this topic for a sixth form project. Many people have many different views and really, hippies themselves can only give the fairest opinions and analogies.. people that were there back then, for example. I feel all you'd be doing is reproducing research.
yeah i was hoping to ask them for some help once i had a topic and it had been approved. i think they would bewilling ot help me. i agree with veiws varying, but the task is used alot to test our research methods and abilty, tehy have no idea about the toics we are picking and are not going to research our cases, its jsut about collecting teh info and our ability to create a desent report that they can learn with pretty much. this topic showing a community and a kind of family (rainbow family) i think it will good.
picking a specific subculture can work. I did a project on "heads" who traveled to shows, and what all the markers were for the subculture- how they identify one another off tour, etc. not bad for last year of uni.
yeah the life of dead heads would be a great topic but you live in Australia where dead heads are hard to come by
hey, i have now found an idea i think im sticking to for my assignment and thought i would update this and let you know. ive choosen to hippies, their lifestyle and how it has changed as they aged. if you guys have any more ideas for this or opions etc, please feel free to share. thankyuo
Your original post was 4 months ago. How long do you have to work on this project and why has it taken 4 months to come up with a topic?
we have a total of 7 months to do this assignment, and were given a few months prior of just ppl mentioning the assignment. i decided on the topic a while ago, and just hadnt posted it, and now that im cracking down and seriously working on it, i remembered and posted it here to try and keep it updated.
so what you looking for some old farts who were around in the hippie daze? someone who saw Jimi and Janis? Remembers Peace riots...lol
yeah people like that, if there is anyone who fits in under that and would like to help me, just let me know thankx guys
hey, i have developed a questionnaire now, and need hippies to answer it, preferably older hippies, but everyone is welcome as i would love to hear your responses! here is the questionnaire, please feel free to answer it, if you dont want the answers public, you can message me here and copy and paste it, or email me on stripey_chick@hotmail.com 1. Define what been a hippie means to you. 2. How would you describe your lifestyle as a hippie? 3. Do you still have and live by your hippie values, or do you feel it was just a phase you went through? 4. What were your feelings towards materialism and possessions as a hippie, and has it changed as you aged? 5. In your opinion, what is the difference (if any) between the stereotypes of a hippie vs. a true hippie? 6. Did you ever feel discriminated against, or looked down upon because you were hippie? Has it affected your self esteem at all? Has it changed as you aged? 7. During your hippie lifestyle, what activities did you participate in for entertainment, has that changed? What are any new activities? 8. Have you encountered hippidom providing problems with access to resources or services? 9. Did you ever participate in communal living? 10. Are you currently part of communal living, living independently, with family etc? 11. As a hippie did you participate in any illegal drug use, for example marijuana, LSD etc (no need to specify which type, yes or no will be fine). 12. If so, why did you take the drugs? For example, mind expansion, recreation, everyone else was doing it. 13. Did music play a large part of your life? If so, which bands and what style? 14. Does music still have such an impact on your life, and has the bands and styles of your preference changed? 15. Since living a hippie lifestyle, has your financial position changed? If so, was it in a positive or negative way? 16. As a hippie, were you ever employed, and are you employed now? 17. Since living a hippie lifestyle, has your location changed, for example from rural to urban, visa versa, and did it affect your hippidom or access to resources? 18. If your body has shown signs of aging (as it does) do you have anything in your physical surroundings to increase your safety? For example, hand railings, ramps rather than stairs etc 19. Within your community do you feel you have a sense of identity? 20. At any point after engaging in hippie lifestyles, did you ever return to “mainstream” living, acquiring a house etc? And do you live more of a mainstream or hippie life now?
