Tried my first sea salt rinse tonight. I just poured it over my head a couple hours ago and left it there, I'm going to bed now but I'll update on how it worked out tomorrow.
this might sound crazy diton. But if you wrap your dreads in apple skin it has the same affect as salt water.. if not better!
Well, doesn't seem like the sea salt rinse did much of anything. I'll try another one tonight and see what happens again though.
what are you expecting the sea salt to do? I wouldn't leave it on overnight, it's going to end up drying your scalp out to shit and then you'll get back dandruff- I was using sea salt everytime I washed my hair for a while and it just made it so dry and itchy Go easy on the salt!
Actually didn't notice any effects on my scalp yet either. I thought the point of the salt was just to dry your hair out so it knots up easier.
yeah it does do that, but I did read somewhere on this forum that you're not supposed to leave it on that long, maybe an hour or two before you wash it, I just don't want you to mess up your scalp...
The more time you spend analyzing your dreads from the beginning, the longer it'll seem to take and you'll most likely brush it out. Forget about your hair and continue living like normal for a little while and it'll all be good.
:iagree: I've had mine for just over a month now, and the entire first month I inspected them everyday for progress, and I was getting so frustrated that nothing was happening, I almost brushed them out. Now I'm trying to forget about them(except when I do stupid stuff like use conditioning shampoo on accident ) you've got a long journey ahead of you. Tbh, if you wanted to see progress faster you could always backcomb or twist and rip. Then they at least look like baby dreads!
I'm just hoping that by the time next semester starts (4 months from now) I'll have something somewhat resembling dreads. I do have one random knot in my hair right now, so I guess that's a step in the right direction.
I like the idea of dreads forming where they "want" to, rather than having to section my hair off myself and ending up with uniformly spaced dreads, and also I don't trust myself to get the sizes right. Edit: Also I want to grow my hair out a bit more anyway. I do have to admit that it's becoming really tempting to comb it all out and just do a twist and rip.
i've finally (almost) started to ignore my hair. the only "special" thing i do now besides the rough towel dry is a very diluted lemon juice rinse that i leave in my hair. not enough to start causing breakage, mind you, but enough to make it 'dry' enough to start catching on itself. i do have to remind myself not to play with my hair, i have a tendency to run my fingers through it and i always end up un-knotting stuff before i realize what i'm doing. lol. I am hoping to have something that resembles what they will eventually be by the time the baby is born in about 6 months or so but if i don't, eh well. i'll just wear a wrap like i always do! it's taken me a week but i've finally stopped paying attention to my hair- feeling around for mats and knots and such, twisting with my fingers for something to do, etc. i've found that hiding it under a bandana or hat helps keep my mind off of it.
Actually, I think I am just gonna start over and do a twist and rip. Guaranteed results with that, and I don't think I'm patient enough for neglect. Unless someone here manages to convince me otherwise.
I think going neglect would have been fun in a way, but I know that I don't have enough patience for that (I'm ok with that) plus I don't think I could have handled the messiness.
I think the difference between the two, since you really need patience for both, is that with neglect you don't see any results at first, but with other methods you at least get to see some progress right away before the waiting starts.
