The Billy Jack movies are our favorite classics...there's four of them...Born Losers-which basically introduced Billy Jack it's kind of a biker movie sort of but not in an Easy Rider way...Billy Jack-which is way cool! there's Native American Spirituality stuff going on & a hippie-type school called 'The Freedom School'...The Trial of Billy Jack-which picks up where Billy Jack left off and pays tribute to events like Kent State...& Billy Jack Goes to Washington-which was so controversal that it was never released in the theaters but did get released on video and DVD years later

Anyone else a big Billy Jack fan?

there's an official Billy Jack website, one of those .com things where the whole set is for sale.

There's a new Billy Jack movie coming out in 2007 with a heavy anti-Iraq War stance plus the other basic Billy Jack elements...the full scoop is on the official website

Loved that song One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack) by Coven :) [IMG]

    Listen, children, to a story
    That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
    And the valley-folk below.

On the mountain was a treasure
    Buried deep beneath the stone,
    And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own.

    Chorus:
Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgement day,
    On the bloody morning after....
    One tin soldier rides away.

    etc......

I watched each of the movies. I even was able to watch "Billy Jack Goes to Washington" in a movie theater in Washington, DC. I loved each one of them when it came out, but I am more skeptical of the world view of the last three movies now.

"Born Losers" is the kind of movie a right wing person could like. A band of criminals terrorizes a small town, and a gun owning Vietnam Veteran comes to the rescue.

I have seen "Billy Jack" at least five times. The last time I saw it the Freedom School made me think of a cult. There was the sense of Us v. Them. The movie idealized the counter culture while presenting straight culture as racist, violent, and evil. I used to think that way, but I became disillusioned with the counter culture. I am too much of an individualist and a loner to feel comfortable in any kind of a movement.

Also, I wonder what kind of job one can get with a degree from the Freedom School.

A lot of movie critics hated "The Trial of Billy Jack." It probably came out too late. It was a divisive movie. After the Watergate Scandal and America's defeat in Vietnam the United States wanted and needed reconciliation.
