dude, take em out. stop resisting our advice. we know what we're talking about (sometimes) if you wait a month to take them out. you will have lost a month of progress. does that make sense?
Your ends will do what htey want to while dreading... unless of course you want blunted tips... you can encourage that. I have wispy ends (so far) and didn't have to use any elastics.
coming from a whole board of people take it from us, bands don't help or speed anything up at all. The hair that falls out now will be the same hair that falls in a month(or two) if you take them out later. Bands just break a damage the hair and have a chance of melting in your hair.
I want to take the bands out because I trust ya'll but like I said before I dreaded my hair and took the bands out the next day and they completely fell apart back to almost regular hair within a week or two. I understand that ya'll took the bands out and that everyone in this thread agrees to take them out but I feel safe by leaving them in until the body of the dread is somewhat locked or at least dreaded instead of just knots. If I decide to leave the bands in, regardless of what you believe, would it be okay if I cut the hair that is on the other side of the band, like the little undreaded tips. I would cut them to just before the band so they would look more round.
Yeah...that's not quite how it works. Don't cut the hair, it will just make them shorter. Your missing the point here. a) By leaving them in you aren't helping those loose hair stay in. When you take them out in a month, they will still fall a part. The will continue to fall a part for a couple months all the while they are knotting on their own, creating loops and bumps and all kinds of stuff. b) leaving for a month them won't hurt them that much as long as you constantly change them out but it's just looks goofy as hell and if it doesn't do anything beside make you feel comfortable and you don't mind the goofy rubber bands, then go for it but your only delaying the inevitable which is your dreads falling a part. Don't take this the wrong way. I used bands for months and was completely worthless and caused lots of damage and looked stupid. Just trying to save you the trouble. EDIT...lots of newbs on here complain about loose hair. Even the most matured locks have lots of loose hair. If this is something bothers you, then dreadlocks aren't your thing. (Not speaking to the OP here directly but you as in all newbs.)
you seriously need to read up on dreads man, you seem to know nadda but sheeeeat. it's normal for your 'dreads' to fall out. they won't be mature dreads for up to a year or more. I've had mine for 6mos now and they are only beginning to mature. If you leave the bands in they start to dread into the hair. some people on this forum used them and were left with gross sticky goop in their dreads. braying donkey posted pictures a while back of ends he had to cut off because the bands had melted into the dread and fucked em up. I don't even know why I'm bothering writing this, you seem to be quite set in your ways. If you want a shitty set of dreads then keep on doing the opposite what your hearing here :cheers2:
I can only agree with the other two posters.. Your hair will not be dreaded in a month. Please do not cut the hair that is sticking out of the elastic bands. This will not round out the ends.... round ends or blunted ends are typically achieved by the dread doing it naturally or by helping manipulate the hair into that position... cutting out hte loose ends at this stage in the game will only really get you angry when you see that it did nothing for you. Not to mention about the people who have posted on this board that have cut off dreads wehn trying to trim their loose hairs... or another member who has all these baby hairs growing out because she cut the loose hair (she is now growing it out). You will have TONS of loose hairs before your dreads are done, unless of course you crochet in all the loose hair which some people do, but that is usually for at the base of the dreads. I'm not sure what the person who did your dreads told you, but it sounds like they have certainly had a much different experience than all of us and our own research/experience. Did he mention anything about wax? How long did it take him to not have any loose hair? Did he have any loose hair? If not.... what did he do to them? I think we are all just trying to help you out. We all have great intentions and I hope that is coming across.
lol don't you think that would just make the new shorter ends unravel when you take the bands out? lol seriously though listen to the people on this forum, since most of them do have dreads, they know what they are talking about.
heres what i think. keeping the bands on the tips of your dreads wont do anything. keeping the bands on your roots will keep any congo's from forming and will be more neat and organized at the root. my friend leaves bands on his roots and his dreads are very orderly, he replaces them every week to keep them from melting or getting eaten by the dread.
I took your advice and I took out the bands. I guess I would like have people post pictures of their dreads either at the beginning or after they had matured. I think this could be a very interesting thread if it became about the pics.
Just look for the timeline photos or look in people's albums. There are tons of photos of just about every dready on here.
dude much better! be patient your dreads are going go through many phases. don't start controlling them now or they will bug the shit out of you through out your whole dread journey. they will get there. eace:
