How long do you have to not wash your hair to get them to start dreading?

it was my understanding that it takes a bit more than just not washing your hair to form dreads.....

......and unless you want stinky dreads.....you have to wash them....

Just not washing your hair isn't going to get you dreads. Actually...if you don't wash your hair, it'll just get oily and make it even harder for it to dread.

Just don't brush your hair if you want natural dreads. Or create them by backcombing.

it depends on the type of hair u have..if u have thick curly hair..they will dread nicely w/ out much effort...u just don't brush it..u can wash it..but not daily..i belive if u r gonna have dreads u should do it naturally . :)

they're right. not washing em will make them oily and act as a kind of conditioner. on the contrary to your thought, find some bar soap, and wash with that. my locks were formed accidentally once i used dr.bronner's hemp bar soap on my head. (it does say for the whole body) dr. bronner's is my recommendation.

I found that after a long time my hair cleaned itself but i did go through a yucky oily hair for a while.Oh and i have straight hair type.

Depening on you hair type it could take a couple of months to 5 years to have nice dreads.

You will get dreads even if you only use conditioner it just takes alot longer.
I would not recomend using much maby once or twice a year or never.

Dr bronners is very good.PEPERMINT ahhhhh happy skelp :) .

frequent washing is good for knotting up hair but if there backcombed whate a good 2 weeks to a month :) .Dont comb.

www.knottylocks.tk has all the information you need :H .

i've had dreads for 2 weeks and washed my hair about 3 times. the only problem i've had so far is that the roots are starting to matt together, so i had to rip them apart and put little elastics about 1/2 inch from my scalp

if you go to the bare it forum and check out "my barefeet" i posted a picture of my 3 week old dreds. i also have some on my galleries. it takes time. i am back combing, washing my hair everyday with dr. bronner's magic soap (no conditionar), and wrapping my dreds to help them form better. i stopped using wax because it really was not doing anything but making my hair oilier. and i heard beeswax is terrible for your hair. some people gave me some sights. www.knottyboy.com this site helped out a bit :)

you take like a flea comb or something...take a chunk of hair that is seperated from the rest and instead of brushing normally brush the opposite and keep doin it till it gets knotty...in my pic some of my dreds are 2 weeks old.
