Here's a chance to help those type A people who think they want dreads, but obviously don't have the temperament. Veteran dreadies out there, add on if you think of more... 1. If you are easily swayed by the words of the people around you, don't get dreads. Even some of the people who love you will discourage you. 2. If you are incredibly impatient, don't try dreads. They take a good long time. 3. If you aren't comfortable with having bedhead for months, don't get dreads. See the second part of Number two. 4. If you are obsessed with your looks, dreads are not for you. They start off messy, no matter the method, and they get worse before they get better. 5. If you don't like to stand out in the crowd, dreads are not for you. Inevitably, some random person will stare at you. Can you handle that? 6. Having dreads does not make you a Rasta, or a hippy, or any other social/ religious label. You are who you are, dreads don't accentuate, nor negate that simple truth. 7. Bottom line, it takes a strong will, unswerving patience, and deep, deep roots to make your dready journey successful... Anybody want to add to that?
9. If you post threads like "Will my hair dread?" "I am white dread = impossible" "I back comb and I am natural routing it" dreads are not for you 10. You're unable to back flip = you're unable to dread 11. Asians = Sorry but Asian hair is undreadble 12. Don't play guitar? Dreads take longer to dread if you don't play guitar
2... I was incredibly impatient, but by starting my dreads and going through the journey I learned patience. 4.... I LOVE MY LOCKS?? do you mean obsessed as in trying to make them look better? 5... I don't like to stand out, I like to be individual but I don't like to stand out.. doesn't mean I .. y'know? 13. If you can't forget about your hair for more than 2 days, you'll find it very hard to let your dreads do their own thing.
I tried to phrase #2 to discount those who are just regularly impatient, because, in our modern society, we all suffer from that. In #4, I mean those who are not able to leave the house if a hair is out of place. #13 Goes right along with that... Isn't being an individual going to make you stand out?
i disagree with #11! here in israel i saw an asian guy with crazy locks, and when i say crazy i mean really crazy!
14. if you do not like to be thought of as a drug crazed stoner, dreads are probably not for you even though they have nothing to do with it, there is still a stereotype out there and people will see you this way
#16 If you think it builds you up to tear down someone else's belief system, dreads aren't for you, either.
#12 LOL #17 cant take a little criticism? #18 don't like being seen as a drug user, trashy, or criminal because of your hair dreads may not be right for you
