They didn't like his WORDS so they assaulted him and vandalized his property...
Nothing more appalling than black folk acting like niggers.

This isn't even an eye for an eye. More like an eye for a pubic hair.

ummm,, no it really doesnt. and many blacks still do not like the term..

i hardly call 20 years a "long history",and once again, you have NO IDEA how long this person has been in this country nor how much he paid attention to whats politically correct on this country, yet your assuming he must have known.

i dont see it as cut and dry as you make it out to be.this person is a immigrant in medical school, again, most immigrants i have met are focused on succeeding and living the american dream, not on what they should and should not do to keep from pissing off black folks..

I've never said they all do like the term.
I'm not talking hundreds and hundreds of years of use.
It has been in circulation long enough for it to become political and pretty much attached to BLACK people not WHITE people:

From your post (and where I am coming from):

The term African-American was coined during the 1960s and '70s.

"Malcolm X used the term "African-Americans" in a speech
called the "Ballot or the Bullet" in 1964. In the speech,
he said blacks are Africans living in America."

    Kinda:
"When I think of 'African American,' it is so deeply a part of the American historical experience with African Americans and slavery,
that you really can't extract it from some sort of racial
understanding," said Professor Michael Lambert in the African and Afro
American Studies Department. "For instance, a white individual from
Africa would not fit the criteria for affirmative action basically
because most people look at the term 'African American' and 'black' as
    the same."

A little longer than 20 years.
I have no idea if he appreciates what is "politically correct"...the history of the term or anything, no.
But if your going to do something like that you sure better do some research.

You would think. But this chap seems to be doing that.
Even if it is not intentional. I don't know his motivation.

    That's plain old dumb.

I throw it around because it's amusing, at least to me. I wouldn't call my mother a Jewish whore, it wouldn't be amusing. Neither would I go to an old concentration camp and say "Burn in hell Jews", I do not really see the point.

While you're missing the entire point.

It's not about feelings and so on and forth.

The word "******" is simply used as an excuse by people to get offended. Hell, you can call me a filthy kike bastard, I wouldn't get offended, even though I could, because I'm simply stronger than that.

The word is freely used by black people in reference to each other. There is either a WHOLE lot of hypocrisy attached to the word, or maybe it has just evolved and changed meanings. If I don't use the word hatefully, is it still hateful?

I often refer to my friends as "faggots"... like... "hey, faggot!". When I use the word, it actually has positive connotations of endearment, even though the word could be offensive.

I do not think that you should go up to a black person and call them "******". I do not think that you should go up to a gay person and call them a "faggot". Your intentions would be negative and idiotic, and you would probably get punched (or slapped weakly).

Feel free to ignore this post though, I do not think that you're grasping the subject.

BraveSirRubin, ALL I ASKED IS FOR YOU NOT TO PUT IT IN TO A POST IF RESPONDING TO ME. I'm not amused by it. You have basicaly said I can't have any feelings about the word because you find it funny and you think words don't or shouldn't mean anything. Well bravo to you. Only thing is...that is your opinion. Not mine. Don't like it? Tough.
If you're the kinda person who thinks he can say what ever to whom ever regardless of anybody elses feelings or requests...well, there is no reasonaing with you and I'll just avoid contact with you if race is involved...as you tend to do this kinda thing when ever race is mentioned.

The point I was making is that : why wouldn't you find it amusing?
There is a reason. They are not just words. ("Oh, I don't find it funny" is the same reason I'm giving, weird I know!)

At the end of the day I just asked a simple request and look where we are now, for pitys sake.

Please stop thinking I am offended. I'M NOT.

P.S: I don't need a etymology lesson of the word, thanks.

    The End.
